The Hobbiton Movie Set tour is an essential stop on the itinerary for all visitors travelling through New Zealand, offering an interesting and entertaining experience incorporating the famous film set as seen in The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies.

Fall in love with the Alexander family sheep and beef farm, just as acclaimed director Sir Peter Jackson did, as you journey through the village, with the mighty Kaimai Ranges towering in the distance. Your guide will then escort you around the set, showing you the intricate detailing, pointing out the most famous locations and explaining how the movie magic was made. You will be taken around the 12 acre set; past Hobbit holes, the Mill and into the famous Green Dragon™ Inn, where you can indulge in our exclusive, specially brewed beverages to conclude your own Middle-earth™ adventure.

My friends and I really enjoyed experiencing the movie set up close and personal. The narrated tour was informative and entertaining. Numerous opportunities were provided for photographs. One member of our group was disabled and the staff was very accommodating to her needs. The food and drink in the Green Dragon tavern was great. Despite the rain and cold, we... More

I had a great visit to Hobbiton, and was collected from the iSite in Matamata. The bus driver was very friendly, and the video clips on the journeys helped them pass even quicker. Our guide, Christie, was friendly, but didn't seem overly enthused or passionate, nor did he have much to add for the big fans. It was a little... More

Could have had better details included from the books or just story in general. The guide was extremely laking in enthusiasm and couldnt wait for the tour to be over. Its cool to get some snaps of the scenic location, but 70$ pp is just a bit much for the experience provided. I was happy to go once, but would... More

This is on top of my list when I first came in NZ. Finally, we got the chance to visit and it felt so good to be here! Make sure to book your tour on a nice weather to really enjoy this amazing place. The tour would require you to walk up and down the hill so wear a comfortable... More

I am a huge fan of both the Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy. The area surrounding the Hobbiton set is breathtaking. We had a very good guide (Nathan) that gave us a lot of the history behind the film and the set. We took a tour bus from Rotorua to the movie set. Our driver was also very good and... More

This the movie set used for The Hobbit. After the filming of the Lord of the Rings the set was torn down and the site returned to farmland. However, when the set was reconstructed for The Hobbit, it was built as a permanent set. Today it's a fascinating insight into the filming by Sir Peter Jackson of the JRR Tolkein... More

Definitely worth the visit. I loved the details of the miniature everything. I went as a private tour and dinner and it was fantastic. The food was so true to Hobbit style and the decorations were perfect. The staff are the best, so knowledgable and have great facts to share. I will definitely recommend!

Hobbiton is one of those magical places for any The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit fans. I was fortunate to visit twice. First back in 2008 before the set was permanent. It was definitely a different experience back then compared to now. The entire venue is now ram packed with vehicles and throngs of tour buses. However, if... More

We had a wonderful time. Our tour guide Bee, was lovely and was full of knowledge. It was beautiful and to have some insight into how the movies were made was fascinating. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.
