I read about this church here on TripAdvisor. We were very curious about the cemetery below the church. The church offers free tours (please leave a donation) on Saturdays from 11-1:00pm. The tour is short and you are given a rich history of this beautiful church - then they will take you down into the crypt. The church is carefully... More

Center Church is one of the first meeting houses/ houses of worship on the Green (square). The exterior is slated for restoration work, starting with the steeple, but the interior is a perfect example of sparse eloquence and quiet contemplation. Besides viewing the elegant architecture, there is a fascinating crypt tour you can take below the structure where some of... More

We were walking around the green and accidentally found this. What a treat. The 20 minute free tour gave a brief history of the church and the crypt. The guide was excellent. Very knowledgeable. The crypt is fascinating. With head stones from as early as the 1600's. Discussion included the time period as well as preservation techniques for the headstones.

Until the end of October, you can get free church and crypt tours on Saturdays. When I went to Yale, I never checked it for some reason, but I did last weekend when I was visting. The church is on the green, which you all know has questionable people all around. Once you get through the riff raff, the church... More

Impressive, beautiful, amazing with a few suprisise is my best description of his slice of history! The downside is all of the bums, homeless and thugs in this area ruin the aura around this splendid place!

It is lovely but it is spoiled by bering on the New Haven Green which has turned into a place where the homeless collect day and night with no police presence. Public urination problem plus panhandling.. Sad as the whole center of New Haven has been allowed to be ruined as it was once not that long ago a lovely... More

Center Church is the home of one the oldest continuing congregations in the country, needleless to say there is a lot of history. The Church itself is from 1812 in the middle of the New Haven Green. The church is beautiful with its columns and brick façade. The Steeple can be seen from East Rock. The interior was beautifully designed... More

I stayed an extra day in new haven to see this church and crypt. Their website says they give tours on Thursdays from 10-1. I went there accordingly, and it was all locked up. When I called, the lady on the other end got short with me and treated me like a nuisance.

This church has tours of its crypt occasionally (on Saturdays) Well worth it. I lived in New Haven for YEARS before I finally got down there, and was very glad I did. New Haven is teeming with history, and a lot of it is right down there.

This little-known attraction is rarely open, so check the hours. The crypt contains the old New Haven cemetery with some interesting occupants and lovely gravestones carved with interesting decorations. Some gravestones are from the late 1600's. The stained glass in the church is also lovely and shows the founding of New Haven.
