The highway goes right by the capitol and my children always thought it looked like a castle. In the springtime the grounds are amazing with the cherry blossoms, and the grounds are always lovely as it has a long sprawling park with a historic carousel....More

I don’t know why you would t take a tour. They are free and full of info! You also get to go in to the legislative rooms, which is super neat. From the outside the building is incredible, and the beauty and detail continue inside.

I have never been disappointed by a capitol building tour. In the first place, the architecture of the buildings is always amazing, with a combination of materials and furnishings that are hard to find outside the halls of government. In addition, tour guides are full...More

Visiting the legislative offices very frequently for work I have the pleasure of walking through the Capitol and enjoying its majestic interior. The building itself is a work of art, its interior craftsmanship fantastic as well as the guards and staff being extremely friendly and...More

Thank you for your kind comments. You are correct in pointing out the problem with the atrium skylights. In very wet weather the seals of these skylights at the west and east sides of the Capitol tend not to be as water-resistant as they should...More

This is a beautiful building! We stopped by here while in Hartford for a concert for something to do as there was nothing else going on.

I was in Hartford on business, had enjoyed an early dinner at my hotel, and decided to take a walk. The city creeped me out, as the streets were virtually deserted except for vagrants and the like. It was a shame, as it is a...More

We're sorry that your experience in Hartford was "creepy," but your description seems to pertain to the city proper rather than the Capitol building itself. Your comment that "the Capitol was grand" is much appreciated.

It reminded me of England and the buildings there. It is a beautiful building. I'm bummed because the pictures I took turned the white building to a beige. Just doesn't do it justice! I am an enthusiast of domes on capitols, so I was so...More

We visited 6 capitol buildings on a road trip around the northeast, and this was our favorite of the 6. The exterior has architectural features like a European castle. The rotunda is extremely tall, and you can surprisingly see up into it from the inside....More

Amidst the blocky-looking buildings of downtown, Hartford, the Capitol juts out like a grand castle! Its gothic-style turrets and shiny, golden dome is very reminiscent of legislative buildings in Europe. We visited on a Sunday, so we didn't do a tour, but relaxing on the...More

Non-flash photography is permitted for everything except the Amistad collection. The lighting in the building is great, and you really won't need a flash.
