We really enjoyed our fall drive up Rollins Pass Road but I must have missed anything that noted the pass road dead ended at the top and you can no longer take it over the pass to Nederland. It is an in and back out...More

This is a BUMPY and Rocky road but very fun with a high clearance vehicle. The tunnel at the top has been closed for years so its a one way trip but quite the view once you get to the top! We started at the...More

Made the drive in a standard GMC Acadia. Lots of regular SUVs will be fine. Yes there are a few bumpy areas, and some with small rocks that need your attention to avoid issues. Take your time and enjoy. Once at end you can walk...More

If you enjoy viewing fields of alpine flowers set among several alpine lakes well above tree line then take the time to make the drive up the Moffat Road to the top of Rollins Pass. The road is rough but most SUVs or Crossovers can...More

The road is deteriorating badly but we made it up in a Honda CR-V using great care (15 years ago we did it in a Chevy Monte Carlo). The views are amazing and it's a short climb to summit Mt. Epworth. A few little lakes...More

We have driven the Rolling Pass road on June 25th, 2018. The weather was dry and sunny. The road surface was dry. It is an excellent ride, albeit a little bit long ride (15 mph),and you are greeted with beautiful scenery once you clear the...More

We first drove the road to Rollins Pass in 1967 before the Needles Eye tunnel collapsed. It was a favorite place to take out of town company. We have driven it many times since then, despite the deteriorating road. The scenery is spectacular, especially around...More

For decades I have wanted to travel up Rollins Pass but due to the time of the visits it was never open. Finally got the chance and it was an adventure with views to die for (literally) The road is rocky and you will need...More

I rode up the Rollins Pass Road to Yankee Doodle Lake yesterday. That's a couple turns below the tunnel that is closed. The road was easy four wheeling. Probably a strong truck with 2 wheel drive could make it. The problem wasn't the technicality of...More

We took our Lincoln Navigator on this trail. It was fun and a little nerve racking. Some parts were just down right scary. We got passed by road bikers some and when we slowly and finally made it to the top it started raining. The...More

I got there with a front wheel drive Jeep Compass. You just have to go slow and be willing to dodge ruts and rocks. At the top I saw a variety of vehicles.

4WD will only matter if the weather is nasty. Otherwise, its clearance you require. Most sedans will be challenged.
