We first drove the road to Rollins Pass in 1967 before the Needles Eye tunnel collapsed. It was a favorite place to take out of town company. We have driven it many times since then, despite the deteriorating road. The scenery is spectacular, especially around...More

I rode up the Rollins Pass Road to Yankee Doodle Lake yesterday. That's a couple turns below the tunnel that is closed. The road was easy four wheeling. Probably a strong truck with 2 wheel drive could make it. The problem wasn't the technicality of...More

We took our Lincoln Navigator on this trail. It was fun and a little nerve racking. Some parts were just down right scary. We got passed by road bikers some and when we slowly and finally made it to the top it started raining. The...More

We were visiting Nederland and this hike was a favorite of my parents from the 70's so we did it, well we kind of did it. We had a rented sedan and made it up somewhat but had to stop because of the rocky terrain...More

This is a rough ride up, with road following what was once an old railroad line, but worth it if your vehicle can take it. If you are a train or history buff, stop by the visitor center in town and pick up a brochure...More

We drove up the from the west side at Winter Park. You will need a 4 wheel drive or high clearance vehicle as this road is not for street cars. It took 1.5 hours to go 15 miles and not topping 15MPH on this road....More

I got there with a front wheel drive Jeep Compass. You just have to go slow and be willing to dodge ruts and rocks. At the top I saw a variety of vehicles.

4WD will only matter if the weather is nasty. Otherwise, its clearance you require. Most sedans will be challenged.
