We like to go in spring and fall, because the aspens put on a world class color show both seasons. This is a fairly strenuous hike for low land visitors, but well worth trying anyway. It goes far up into the western San Juan's into some splendid high country. Most people seem to turn around at the saddle, but eh... More

A long walk to be sure with lots of elevation gain, so bring lots of water ! That said this is a stunning walk I do at least once a summer, go early and take your time, this one is a real treasure !!!

We left at 9:30 am & did the counter-clockwise loop. I definitely recommend this route– it took us about 3.5 hours to reach the highest point (4 miles) & another 3.5 hours from there back to the trailhead (just over 8 miles). That should give you an idea about the elevation gain at the beginning. It was a strenuous hike... More

This is a 13 mile hike, so not for the inexperienced, though the trail is very good. Views are beautiful, the mountains enfold you. The terrain changes from grassy to rocky. You will not forget the experience. Bring water & food of course!

Absolutely stunning hike. It is pretty long with elevation gains so be prepared for a more strenuous hike. the view make you feel as if you are on top of the world. Hiking in the summer will wow you with wildflowers and hiking in the fall with be an experience you will never forget....it is an absolute tapestry of brilliant... More

Outstanding hike. It'll instantly become one of your favorite hikes ever. Unfortunately, there isn't much parking available at the top of Aspen St., so try to find someone to drop you off and pick you up. Also, start the hike early before any potential afternoon showers or thunderstorms - its a long hike with 3,000+ feet of elevation gain. And... More

This hike was amazing. We did the counter-clockwise loop, starting at the top of Aspen Street in Telluride. I recommend this route (vs. clockwise) for a couple reasons: 1) You reach the summit and start descending earlier -- safer, as storms are likelier after noon; 2) The sharp incline is easier to take on the ascent vs. on the descent.... The trail to the Sneffels Highline begins with the dratted ascent on the Jud Wiebe. Don't be discouraged, it flattens long enough to catch your breath once you leave the Jud. As mentioned in other reviews, make sure you are acclimatized before you attempt this hike, as you climb over 3300 feet in 4 miles and if you are a... More

Parts of trail were still covered in snow in late June. We lost the trail due to snow cover and came across another hiker who had lost the trail. We were able to find our way to the high point using the creek and landscape. However, when we got to the top, there was no way down the other side.... More

zentraveler's review here has nothing to do with accessing the Sneffels Highline Trail, but rather to do with climbing Mt Sneffels itself....the Sneffels Highline Trail is not an approach to climbing Mt Sneffels. The trail runs between its east end off the Jud Wiebe loop, as accessed off N. Aspen St. in Telluride, and the Deep Creek Trail on the... More
