About 2 hours drive from Makassar city.
A village / valley surrounded by limestone mountain. To visit ,must take a boat ride costing idr200k ( max about 6 adults per boat ) On the way , will pass thru' a passageway covered by " unique limestone formation " Activities there are mainly paddy farming and veggie . There is also a " flat field of limestone " A lodge available with a cafe , if you need to stay overnight. Strictly for nature lovers.

Nice boat ride and village. However, the first thing one notices and which is present during the whole visit is garbage. Garbage is everywhere: in the water, in the fields… If there is a wish to get visitors, then at least an effort must be made to clean the place up, and keep it that way. The current state of the village is a pity.

This is a really beautiful place to visit. Ideal for a one day trip. We had just one day between flights and it was a perfect solution. Although it was rainy in Makasar The weather was just fine in the village. You can spend there around 2 hours walking between rice fields and enjoying the views. I must recommend our guide Alex who we also found in one of the comments below. He speaks English and knows the area very well. Also he did the tour for two of us with his car. We paid 700k for the trip plus entrance fees. That also includes pick up / drop off from a hotel. You can contact him on WhatsApp: +62 813 4431 7277

My wife and I did a day trip from Makassar to Rammang Rammang village with Mr. Burhanuddin (+62 813 4251 3328). It was a fun experience: the 3ish km boat ride to get there combined with the lack of road access give one the impression that the place is fairly isolated (we were there on a Friday). A scenic mix of rice paddies and Buginese as well as Makasarese traditional houses set against the backdrop of karst mountains. Highly recommended a visit as well as Mr. Burhanuddin’s guiding services!

Apparently opened to tourists only 7 years ago. This experience starts with a boat ride giving you respite from the heat as it weaves along a river. You then arrive at RemmangRemmang Village which is a series of rice fields set amongst karst mountains. It is very picturesque and scenic. Support the locals along the way by buying a drink or two!

Hi, all. I noticed that information about this place in English is rather limited. So as a frequent visitor to Rammang-Rammang (and honorary village member, haha) let me give you guys some insider's tips so that you know what to expect and plan for when you go there :) Buckle up, this is going to be a long one.
#1 Rammang-rammang has fantastic views at any time, I think. But best time to go there is right after sunrise, around 7-8 AM or before sunset, around 4-5 PM. Two reasons, cooler weather and less wind. Less wind means the water is still and will reflect like a perfect mirror, and if you're in the sunset gang, then you can have stunning views of an orange sky that slowly turns violet. Of course, this is weather permitting, which brings me to the second tip.
#2 Best months to go there, in my opinion, is during harvesting seasons or when they first plant the paddy fields (in terms of the views). Now this isn't an exact science, but for harvesting, April and August is a good bet. And first planting in June and December. Keep in mind that if you're visiting during DRY MONTHS then there might be places that you need to access on foot because the water level isn't high enough. Meanwhile during MONSOON months then you really really need to watch what you wear, especially shoes-wise, and there are places like the Secret Garden that will be flooded. Locals may allow you to go there but it's mud-central. No pretty shoes allowed. Unless you like having trouble walking and seeing them caked in mud. This brings me to my third tip.
#3 Wear mountain sandals. I cannot stress this enough. You need shoes with a firm grip, but would also allow you to wash your feet easily if you get mud on it. The second option is mountain shoes or trainers. Firm grip is much more important than cleanliness. You could get away with other types of shoes but the state of them afterwards is at your own risk. I wouldn't recommend anything with heels. The terrain here can get quite muddy (deep, shoe-sucking mud), slippery or is made out of uneven rocks. This tip is important if you feel like exploring the place. If you're just there to take a couple of snapshots of the front of Berua Village, where it's more paved, feel free to wear more stylish things. Additionally, you can buy sandals for Rp 15.000,00 in the warungs (small store).
#4 If you're pressed for time, then there's some places I'd suggest you to go to first. Berua Village (Kampung Berua), Salenrang Stone Forest and Batu Barakka (in Dock 2) and the Rammang-Rammang Cafe. Puncak Cafe is also great for the panoramic views. These places make for some great photos. Goa Berlian (Gem Cave) is not recommended. If you want to see caves, spend a couple more minutes on the boat and ask to go to Goa Kunang-kunang (Fireflies Cave), a much bigger and sparklier affair. If you have some more time, the sunset at Kampung Laku (Laku Village) is beautiful. Though the sunset is beautiful most everywhere in Rammang-rammang.
#5 If you've got time, then a one night stay in Rammang-Rammang is pretty cool! You can have a moonlight trip down the river if it's nearing the full moon. The bats come out of their caves at around 6 PM. And April is the best time for sunrise, I'm told, so if you stay in April you can see the sunrise peeking between two karst mountains in Berua Village. Many people in Rammang-Rammang provide homestays so if you don't know where to stay, then make sure to check booking websites or go there and let the boat driver or the woman in the warung in Berua Village know. Many of them understand the word [homestay] so I think they can help.
#6 Please make sure to take care of the environment and tip well! Many boat drivers there are also farmers. The people in Rammang-rammang farm rice for their own sustenance, and keep fish in the ponds, but they have to buy everything else from the city. Fuel for boats can be quite expensive, and since farming is weather-dependent, they are heavily impacted if the weather is uncertain. And if you go to more than one place, not just Berua Village, then please expect to pay more than the standard fare written in the sign in the dock. It takes around 30 minutes to get to Berua Village from Dock 1, and 15 minutes from Dock 2.
Dock 1 is nearer to: Fireflies Cave, Laku Village
Dock 2 is nearer to: Batu Barakka, Salenrang Stone Forest
The Cafes are in the middle between Dock 1 and Dock 2.
Have a great time! Hope this helps!

I have a fabulous trip with Dodo. Punctual, efficient, entertaining and reasonable prices. Can recommend him very highly for any of your needs. It was a day I will always remember. The village at Rammang Rammang was sensational.

Firstly, this is a great trip out from Makassar, especially if you are staying near the airport. If you go by taxi it's about 140000 one way. However, we travelled by pete pete, the small blue local vans. Get yourself to Terminal Daya then pick up another pete pete to Pangkep. Ask them to drop you at Rammang Rammang (pronounced Ramung Ramung!).
You then have to walk about 1km to the boat pier. It costs 200000 for a smaller boat for 4 then a little more for bigger boats. Sometimes they insist on foreigners having their own boat but we managed to share with a group of Indonesians to reduce the cost.
The trip is stunning. You travel for about 25 mins by river, through the karst to a plateau of rice fields surrounded by hills. It is spectacular! You are free to wander where you like but there is a route around taking in caves and small cafes. For a tiny entrance fee you can also stop at a small limestone village on the return journey. It's a really great trip out if you have a spare day in Makassar and if you travel by pete pete the return journey only costs 20000 each.

Its really breathtaking view! I suggest you to go from Makassar around 5am in the morning so you can catch up sunrise here. I bet its more beautiful. Do not come here at noon, its super hot but its worth it! Try kafe rammang-rammang too!

Hi..
1. You can stay with the local people in rammang2 area. They rent some huts and mats. I suggest you to stay one night there because the night sky's so beautiful. You can ask the villagers for staying in their houses as well.
2. You can stay not inside the area but outside area. There're some hostel or inn in Maros.
May help. Thx

What are the best ways to get there ?
Written 20 February 2018
If you have a car or you are going by taxi, then it is es-asy. Otherwise you need to take a bus who drives this way, jump off near the bridge and walk the last kilometer

Can anyone tell me how to get in touch with the eco lodge? TA says it doesn't provide quotes.
Written 7 October 2017
Try this; maybe you can get in contact with Udhin dancy but not sure because he is often unavailable during his work on tours:
Call : (+62) 813 -4290- 533
SKype: Udhin.dancy
If you really want to go just go there outside weekends, it is pretty sure you will get accommodation. If you are not lucky you can always return to Makassar to get someplace to sleep.

I'm about to book with Cempaka travel, a private trip to Rammang- Rammong, then the Leang Leang caves, back to the old harbour, then Fort Rotterdam.
Cempaka Travel want to be paid all in advance, and have huge cancellation fees. Are they reputable and trustworthy (I have read a review that is very disappointing)? Or should we be travelling with another company?
We are on a cruise ship and only have about 7 hours in total.
Written 15 August 2016
Try to contact Caraka Travelindo (you can googling first to see the company) and talk to Melly.
I have talked to other staff but Melly gave me better offer.
However, I am afraid 7 hours will not sufficient to cover all of those places you mentioned.
Rammang2 itself about 1-1,5 hours and I heard the road in Maros recently underwent some improvement and caused heavy traffic. However I am not updated with the situation there. Melly certainly knows better and can give you suggestion.
I hope you find this helpful.

The Cruise ship has a day tour to Bantimurung National Park but we have been told Rammang-Rammang is better. Is this correct and how far is it from ship terminal? Would it be difficult getting there independently as the Cruise does not have it mentioned on their day tour/ Thank you Wendie
Written 24 April 2016
Bantimurung is more touristy and mass tourism than Ramang2.
I do not have idea where the cruise ship will be harbored
If it is in Makassar then it is quite far from Ramang2/Bantimurung.
