Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I went to this park and then I read the reviews here on trip advisor, especially the negative ones. I don't agree with them. There are live butterflies here, many of them. I spotted some. The area where the most butterflies are was to crowded with kids trying to catch them so I did not bother going over there but there were dozens of butterflies flying around. The park is nice and when I was there did look maintained. If you have kids this is a great place to take them if they enjoy playing in water the waterfall is great. This price for admission is higher for foreigners but I paid the local price because I had an Indonesian friend with me not a tour guide. That helps. Still it's not that much more. Bantimurung does not mean butterflies it's simply the name of the park.

Pitiful that tourists pay 9x more than Indonesians as entry fees.
It’s no wonder that only one other ‘foreigner’ was seen by my mixed race family during our day there.
If you want tourist support, don’t discriminate against those who provide other forms of revenue such as hotels, tours, taxi fares, meals out. Its all the more important now following the decimation of tourist revenue after COVID.

It's not as good as before when it was established for the first time. It's dirty and has a few butterflies around. There are waterfall and caves around. It's little bit dirty and crowded. You need to pay for the ticket and also for parking.

We just made it to the entrance, where they wanted to charge us 255k IDR per person (locals 25k)
So we just turned around, had a lunch and headed back to where we came from.
I don't have a problem at all, to pay more than locals, but not 10 times more.

If you are foreigner, want to see something in South Sulawesi, and like nature, don't go there, unless you want to pay 50.000IDR (foreigner's price) for average waterfall full of locals on tyres,, concrete benches, average cave and sad sight of dead butterflies for ole-ole. It's not worth the trip from Makassar.

We had one day to kill in Makassar, and decided to check out the waterfalls and butterfly park at Bantimurung. What a waste of a day. We spent two hours on at least 3 different Bemos in the penetrating heat to get there. Getting off the Bemo we walked past numerous stalls selling food, drink, and most disappointingly, thousands of framed butterflies. Don't encourage this dispicable practice - its no wonder there are very few butterflies left in what must have once been an incredible sight. We were expecting a 20 000 admission each based on Lonely Planets (often incorrect) advice, and arrived to face 50 000 rupiah each - more than we were willing to pay but considering the effort we took to get there decided to bite the bullet. Basically this is a dirty public pool fed by a large waterfall. The waterfall itself is impressive, but is ruined by its surroundings - litter, concrete, dilapidated facilities, and hawkers. We walked to the top of the river only to find a walkway that was accessible with a flashlight, which guides willingly offer - at this point we were done, and chose to make the walk straight back out the gates, only to find no bemos returning to Rantepao. We waited 45 minutes, punctuated with swathes of locals wanting to take pictures with us (which is normally fun, but less so when you're in a bad mood, and after 40 or 50 occurances), until we waved a Bemo down, for a 2 hour ride back to the city. Waste of money, not to mention a whole day. Stay away.

This place is all about nature but it is VERY DIRTY... I don't thing people would like to swim or enjoy the river flow.... It is dirty... They should do the clean-up and upgrade this place... Almost no butterfly in this park... Very bad management..... Not recommended for enjoying the nature...

About 1 hour from Makassar city, we spent the about 5 hours at the site. The waterfalls is a nice site but the caves are the most attractive activities. To get inside is free but it is strongly suggested to hire a guide with a lamp (50,000rp) for a group, as it is pitch black inside. The cave is about 100 meters long, horizontally and is easily accessible. Great for the family to learn about butterflies during the month of May especially. Avoid week-ends and hollydays...entance fee is 10.000 for locals and 50.000 for foreigners.

Upon arrival with my wife and children for a return visit having previously visited in 2016 i could not believe the change in prices. My wife and children could gain access for 25000 rupiah however as i am foriegner i would have to pay 225000. I refused to pay. The place is a joke. No proper amenities. Nothing really to see and certainly not worth paying 11 x more than my wife. Would not recommend here to anyone not even for local prices. This is what is completely wrong with tourism in Indonesia now and why single visits never become return.
