This is one of the coolest hikes I've done since moving to Colorado. The hike itself is relatively short and moderately easy (about 1.5 miles there, 1.5 back), but the reward is the fire lookout house at the end. You climb 143 stairs to the...More

Had a day trip here on the weekend. The drive to get here has its own thrills. Winding dirt roads. I am glad we had a high clearance suv lots of ruts and rocks. The hike goes up almost a thousand feet in elevation on...More

You will be rewarded for the 20 minute washboard drive with a spectacular view of the plains, Pikes Peak, and the South Platte drainage. An hour to hour and a half moderate hike brings you to the cabin of the fire tower keeper. A couple...More

It is best to get here early as the parking is limited. There is a bathroom at the parking lot, the trail to the top is well maintained and the level of the hike is is fairly easy if your used to the altitude. If...More

What a beautiful reward at the top! You can even go into the fire lookout if the ranger is there. Wonderful view! The hike is moderate.

I've visited Devil's Head Fire Lookout every year. Since it's the last manned station on the front range you never know how long it will be around! The hike is short but steep so you do need to be in fairly good shape for the...More

The drive up is very scary. Of course, it is a mountain and the roads are so narrow. It's frustrating when you are looking at reviews and no one tells you what to expect on the roads. Be careful for people hauling ATV's and people...More

You simply forget how beautiful this hike is. And it’s so convenient to denver with no I70 traffic. Count on 2-3 hours round trip.

I've hiked this trail all the way to the top 5 times now. Just doesnt get boring! There are so many different terrain views from the bottom all the way to the top. Bill lives at the top during the season, and is always there...More

I went to devils lookout when I was a child and the fire tower was still there and staffed. The view was awesome and the stories of the ranger were fantastic. All of the stools and furnishings were on glass insulators to keep safe during...More

Just finished the hike today - definitely not stroller friendly. Lots of steep switchbacks (not very flat) with rocks and other objects to step over.

The trail was open last week and I believe will stay open until Rampart Range closes Dec 1, but I don't think the fire tower at the top is open after mid September.
