I will never understand why campers complain about gravel roads, lack of free showers, and all the other amenities that they could have if they just stayed home, which is what many of them should do. San Luis was to-die-for gorgeous: open spaces, views of the dunes, dark sky with no city lights to screw it up, and huge campsites.... More

Our Back-up due to the fact The Great Sand Dunes SP was booked 5 months out. Great Views, no shade except for metal Table cover. Dusty gravel road to the paved loops. We were there at the end of May and didn't know about the sand Fleas until it was too late. Ankles to knees ate up! WARNING! We saw... More

First off let me say the views of the mountains in this park are amazing. The campsites are roomy and nice. Covered table and a fire ring at each. Sites are electric only, so haul in some water. There are flush toilets (more on that in a min), showers(pay), and pay laundry facilities. Sites are very spread out, so the... More

We camped in this park for two nights in August, 2015. This is a very quiet campground with many private campsites. You will want to go here for the peace and serenity. What it has are some beautiful views and an opportunity to get away from it all. Bathrooms are clean with pay showers. We did have a problem getting... More

We were on a 300 mile bike camping trip and we decided to camp here rather than the Great Sand Dune park because it saved us almost 15 miles of riding. The Campground was adequate, although the rough unpaved gravel road into the park was difficult on a bike and we worried about getting a flat. The park itself is... More

This state park is very close to the sand dunes. It was really buggy when we arrived to set up camp though. Luckily the ranger's wife had bug spray at the headquarters and allowed us to use it when purchasing firewood. The sites are very spacious. Mine was number 7 and also close to the restrooms and showers. Keep in... More

We camped here while heading to the Sand Dunes. The campgrounds are nice. You need to book pretty far in advance to ensure that you get a spot in the summer. Otherwise, be prepared to leave early to snag a walk up spot.

We stopped by here on our way to Great Sand Dunes, expecting to take a walk by the lake and take some photos. The lake has been drained or has dried up, so there is no water except some irrigation ditches. The surrounding mountains are scenic, but you don't have to be at the State Park to see them. There... As Colorado State Parks go this one is also in a wonderful location and has electrical hookups, showers, and laundry facilities. There are water spigots and water is provided but there are not water hookups at the sites. We visited in late September so all loops except one, the showers and laundry were closed already and the park was largely... More

We stayed here the first time a few years ago when we got to the Great Sand Dunes and found the campground full. Back then, there was a lake, but it was very shallow and not really meant for boating or swimming. Still, that's not what we came for anyway, so we were pleasantly surprised by the campground accommodations. There... More
