We attempted to drive the spiral drive. However, the road was blocked by a gate. There were no signs informing drivers of the closure until you reached the gate. So, my advice is "don't attempt the trip".

Stunning views : Easy drive or challenging walk/cycle to the top. Best place to survey Salida from the Eagles nest as the top of S-Mountain which is even prettier at night.

Salida means exit in Spanish. That's a befitting name for a small town (with two stoplights) nestled at the base of the Colorado Rockies because it allows visitors to navigate through those mountains on their way to somewhere else. However, you'll miss Salida - part...More

You can drive to the top. To get to the tower, you have to walk a few steps, but the photo was taken from the car.

It took me about 40 minutes starting at the Caboose parking lot to get to the top of the steps with the little building. I walk slow and stopped to take a break at the bench. I bet you could do it faster though!
