We visited this a few times when living in the area and once again when we just went back to Colorado for a visit. It is small and quaint, but there is a great deal of information and history in all you see. Ask questions and will be treated to the best information you can access. The docents are friendly... An interesting and enlightening visit with a guide who was more than happy to show us the key artefacts and tell us some fascinating tales about the town's railroad and mining history. We were very appreciative of the guide's knowledge and enthusiasm and although the museum is small, it houses a very well curated collection of items which illuminate the... More

We have seen the museum many times but only recently visited and were very pleasantly surprised. The museum docents are friendly and knowledgeable. The Salida Museum contains displays of tools and artifacts associated with railroading, mining, farming, and ranching in Colorado, as well as, photographs of early Salida, various types of art, household furnishing, Native American items and a unique mineral... We loved this museum, a very good collection of artifacts representing the history of this small town and the surrounding area. Our guide was well-versed in the collection, knew his history, and easily communicated his enthusiasm. All the guides are volunteers - volunteers make this commitment because they love history and sharing it with visitors. If you love museums, you... More

My wife and I spent an hour in this great little museum. Lots of artifacts from the early days of Salida and the railroad. The collection is well curated for a volunteer run museum with lots of informative text. We really enjoyed the "Guess what this is" displays. The docent that was there when we visited was friendly and knowledgeable... More

The volunteer staff at this little gem of a museum is fabulous. The museum itself has many artifacts telling the story of Salida. The volunteer docent was passionate and knowledgeable. Definitely worth the price of entry to learn about the fascinating folks who created this funky little mountain town.

Lots of good artifacts. Worth a visit. If you do not know what is meant by the saying, "Someone is a basket case", you can find the answer at the Salida Museum.

When family members from Florida and South Carolina said they would like to see places in Colorado where they had never visited, I decided Salida would be the place to go. Our visitors were interested in learning about the history of this very interesting small town, so we went to the Salida Museum. We thought the collections, displays and explanations... More

We had a great time learning about local history from Bob Campbell as we toured this museum, even got to see the famous "Fur-bearing Trout" featured in an episode of the Mysteries at the Museum television show! Lots of interesting items attached to famous historical figures all with a local Salida connection. Will be back to see it again next... More
