Wonderful Jeep Ride

We enjoyed the trail of forests, fields, flowers, and mountains. We recommend this road for scenery.

Took Last Dollar Rd as an alternative to some of the more intense jeep trails and couldn't believe how awesome it was! Varied topography, lots of wildlife, cattle, and horses, and some of the best views in CO. While most of the road is an...More

Mother Natures Finest! Drove from Telluride to Ridgeway. Had lunch in Ridgeway. Outstanding! Lots of Aspen trees.

Need high ground clearance for sure. My 2015 Escape scraped bottom a few times. 4wd absolutely necessary if it's been raining. A few sketchy holes but we made it through, fun! The views were amazing and breath taking! We were going to Telluride, it took...More

This scenic drive between the Ridgway area and Telluride is wonderful regardless of the season. Early summer brings wildflowers galore, fall it is awash with vibrant color, and wildlife like deer, elk and even bear year around. As a photographer many of my most valued...More

Spring time up high with flowers and aspens putting out new leaves. BEAUTIFUL pictures up high. Snow up there but not on the road.

Terrific trip but the road is definitely for 4WD high clearance vehicles. Great scenery. A must see.

The wonderful 1969 film, "True Grit" (for which John Wayne won his only Oscar) was filmed in and around Ridgway/Ouray. The opening and closing scenes were filmed on Last Dollar Road--at what is now an abandoned farm.

Did this in a rental car, so don't tell company. Must have all or four wheel drive. We were very lucky as road mostly dry though some slush and melting snow high. Went from Ridgeway side to Telluride and very scary descent towards end as...More

During that time of year be sure to check with folks in Ridgway on the current road conditions as you could encounter snow at that time. I would not recommend taking a passenger car over that road. Approaches from each end... More

Yes, you can, however you will need to trailer your ATV to a staging area right outside Last Dollar Ranch, about a mile or so in. The only problem is that once you get to the end of the road at Hwy. 145, going into... More

It could be tricky in spots. If you give it a go - just NEVER stop in a wet, muddy or stream over the road area. If you lose your forward momentum, it's a very long distance for help. The mud is very clay like and is quite... More
