My favorite thing about this trail is that you are almost always within sight, sound, or both of Piedra River, which just makes it special. Being 2 people with 1 car, we didn't shuttle for a longer option, but still very enjoyable. Only hike we...More

you need two vehicles or a pick-up! start at Piedra river crossing on route 600/631, hike west for six hours + until you reach the bridge over the Piedra on route 166/622. Great views over the river and box canyons. Not too strenuous.

This is one of my favorite trails anywhere, due to the variety of scenery along the way, the relative ease of the activity, and the ability to keep going and going, if you choose. (Years ago we hiked far enough out to fly fish in...More

There is something to stare at around every turn in this trail. We hiked with six kids and two moms back to the river and enjoyed a rest and picnic lunch before heading out. A good mix of flat and hills, with the water almost...More

This hike follows the river, starts pretty flat, then takes you into the canyon next to the river. We walked slowly watching birds, the river, fishermen, and rock climbers. It was peaceful and beautiful. We only walked about 1.5 miles in and back, but I...More

Hiked this trail on 08/02/17. What a lovely hike! We drove approximately 7 miles on Piedro Road (from US 160) & then drove approximately 10 miles on a dirt/gravel road (FS 631). FS 631 was windy & somewhat bumpy in places but it certainly is...More

This is a fairly easy hike. From the large trail head parking lot, you walk through open areas with wild flowers, mushrooms, and scenic views. You then drop down into the narrow canyon with steep walls, overhanging rocks, and a beautiful river. We only went...More

This was a beautiful hike, one of my favorites we did while in Pagosa. You start out in a meadow surrounded by the mountains, you end up hiking into the gorge. It can be narrow at times, with a great view of the river below....More

You could carry one in a carrier on your back quite a ways down the path, but I'd be careful allowing young ones walk on their on. There are some edges above the river early in the hike that wouldn't be advisable.
