Piedra River Trail is excellent for a novice hiker. There is little to no grade for the entire trial, yet it follows the scenic piedra river, in all its glory. Also great trail for rock climbers. This trail definitely offers something for everyone. Beautiful and peaceful, with opportunities that are a bit more extreme.

Great views along a well marked trail. Nice picnic lunch along the river and enjoyed watching the rock climbers

They were working on the trail as we began our hike. The trail crew said the bridge was a great turn around point for a quicker hike. They encouraged us to look for wild hops growing out of the soapstone as we hike. As we began down the trail, the aspens were filled with bright gold. The colors were only... More

This is an excellent hike into a magnificent and extremely rugged river valley. The trail is well worn and gets lots of people and horse traffic each day. The scenery is second to none. You should carry lots of water during the warmer months you will need it. There are bears in the area though I have never seen one... More

We wanted to get the to see the back woods of this beautiful state. We started out with a paved road that quickly turned into a rough gravel road. The trees and views were beautiful but having to pay so much attention to driving made the trip less enjoyable. Got a got of super pic and saw a turkey or... More

We hiked a total of six Pagosa trails, this one is our favorite. The views of river and canyon are exceptional. You should put this hike on your first to do list.

Arrived later in the afternoon. About 1 mile from the waterfall trail head is a small tarn. A bull moose was in the water munching his dinner. He tolerated many photo shots with little concern..STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE! There are many roads in the area. They all dead end except the Piedra Road. We saw grouse, turkeys, an osprey, and... More

We hiked to the falls (half a mile each way) with 4 kids between the ages 3-5. It was a great trail for them with only one short area where we needed to watch them closely near a steep edge. Bring your camera and water shoes to explore the area near the falls. It would be a beautiful area to... More

Nice trails for hiking while taking in the beautiful view. May also see wildlife as you walk. So peaceful.

This was a beautiful hike! We really enjoyed the 3.5 miles we did. Ended up being a 7 mile round trip hike. One of those in our party even got to see a juvenile bear. Very exciting!
