This was one of our better hikes, tough in section but giving one sufficient views on the Swiss like mountains with several opportunities to hike on several trails.

By far the most challenging trail in the area. Scenery is amazing and well worth the drive. Make sure you wither are an experienced driver or have someone to guide you through the passes. Longer trucks need more time and patience to do the trail.

The Bear Creek NRT is just minutes away from Ouray. The trailhead is across the road from the parking area. It starts uphill immediately, so you won't have time to warm up your core gradually. There is slate on part of the trail and it...More

This is a really odd, interesting and rewarding route. It starts by hiking up over a tunnel the highway runs through, climbs up through shale, then suddenly turns to quartzite, contours under massive cliffs, above a wild creek, and takes you up to cool old...More

Loved this trail despite my fear of exposure - a trail blasted into the side of a rock cliff. Wonderful views of the gorge and the mountain range to the west. Keep an eye open to the cliffs on the south side where you can...More

In the beginning you feel the slate switch backs will never end (about a mile). When they finally do...WOW! What Views! Mountains abound! However...part of the trail itself can be a bit daunting to those who have a fear of heights. You are really high...More

This was the best hike we did in Colorado. We went to Yellow Jacket mine, 8.4 miles round trip and 2700 feet vertical. I recommend going all the way to Yellow Jacket, the mining ruins are way better than Bear Creek mine which was pretty...More

If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful valley to spend a day or two, this is the place. It is a small park, less than 20 parking spots, but the valley is beautiful and very walkable. The best news is, there are few insects...More
