Nice day trip from Posadas, but take insect repellent on the forest walk

We organised a tour from Posadas (which, although it is inneighbouring Misiones province is actually closer to Ibera than Corrientes city). The drive to Portal Galarza (one of about 5 access points) took about two and a half hours, where we had a snack in an open-sided building and then we were given a talk by a (very passionate) local, before heading to the water. Around the building were Capybara and a fox and on the watervwe saw caiman, and numerous bird species, and a range of flowering water plants. The Laguna Galarza was large, but with surprisingly few trees on the edges. We landed on a "floating island". After a couple of hours we returned to base and enjoyed a steak meal. Later (after rather a long delay) we were taken on a guided tour of the forest. This was more about the flora rather than the fauna, but we did see deer and monkeys .... but the mosquitoes found us (take strong insect repellent!!). Then we returned to Posada.

In our opinion, this was a nice wetland but not on a par with Kakadu (in Australia).

Great place to have wildlife come to you

Love love love. Once again a simple park that for some will find dull because it’s not touristy. That’s why I love it. Plenty of wildlife on the way in and more once we got to the main part. We saw macaws, capybaras, monkeys, kingfishers, iguanas, caymans, deer, so many other birds and insects plus lovely flora.
This place does a wonderful job rehabilitating macaws retrieved as pets and reteaching them how to fly, eat, mate etc. a very noble project. The campground is green, flat and a good shower / toilet block.
The capybaras will come very close to you if you stay still and many times they’ll have their cute little babies with them. An iguana just walked out to say hello to me while I was reading.
It was very hot while I was there so lots of sunblock and insect repellent. Plus plenty of water.
A guide is essential to truly appreciate your environs.
Go ahead and explore. You won’t be disappointed .

Easy to see the wildlife
July 2019
Wide variety of birds, caiman, deer and capybara families easily seen from the car in this wonderful landscape. Delightful early in the morning with no-one else around. Very pleased the macaws have been re-introduced.

Under-rated, under-visited location...

This park is part of the Ibera wetlands (2nd largest wetlands area in South America) and provides an excellent contrast to BA, Patagonia (glacier park) & Iguazu falls. Worth a 3 day/night visit if you can locate a good hotel (try Puerto Valle only 45 mins transfer from Posadas airport!)

Wonderful wildlife

This wonderful area deserves to be better known. We made two excursions into the park in January 2018 and saw a fantastic range of wildlife - caymans, capybara, fish, birds, a snake ... An unforgettable experience and well worth the effort to get there.

Nature paradise

It's definitively worthwhile visiting the Esteros del Iberá! Very different from the classic sights of Argentina. A must-see place for all nature lovers, an amazing example of conservation. This is pure nature surrounded by deep rural Argentina. If you can, make sure you stay at Hosteria Rincón del Socorro and learn more about the work of the Tompkins

Lots of birds and wildlife

We took a guided tour because we are traveling by bus. There is a long dirt road into this area that looks like it would be a real mess in the rain. We saw capybara, caimans, monkeys, a fox, and too many birds to list, including a strange tailed tyrant which is an endangered species. There is a nice well maintained picnic area at the end of the road
