My wife and I were in the Morrison and Boulder area for two back to back shows at Red Rocks and wanted to get some hiking done.I have heard of this trail but never had experienced up till now. We are so glad that we did. The views of Denver and Red Rocks amphitheater are awesome to say the least. The trail is rocky so be prepared with proper foot wear. Bring plenty of water as there is very little shade until you reach Mount Falcon.Parking can be a bit tricky, try to arrive a bit early. Pack a lunch and enjoy yourself at one of the many picnic tables. This is not a difficult hike at all. I is VERY worth it for the views. I only wish I had discovered earlier in my travels to the Morrison and Denver area.

I grew up in the suburbs of Denver and while visiting recently I wanted something new to do. My sister-in-law suggested Morrison, CO. Just a 20 minute ride down C-470 from the Highlands Ranch housing area. Morrison itself is a sleepy little town with a few good restaurants and a few greasy beer joints. We ate at the TNT Country Kitchen which had a lovely outdoor seating area adjacent to the river. Food was a little greasy, but good considering it was a little country kitchen in a tiny town.
The gem of the day was going south on HWY 6 from Morrison. After just a mile or two you come upon the Mount Falcon Park. It is the trail head for some great trails. We took the Turkey Trot trail because it is pedestrians-only, no bikes allowed. The beauty of the trail is that it takes you high enough after just 15 minutes to have a breathtaking view of Down Town Denver and is adjacent to Red Rocks Amphitheater, which is beautiful as well. The trail is challenging enough to be fun, but easy enough that my sister's 5 year old could handle it, as well as my 73 year old mom. It was fun, new, and gave some surprise views of a city I love.
*** These trail heads close once the weather turns bad.

Just a quick 30 min drive from central Denver gets you on these trails just south of
Red rocks amphitheater. There are trails that are designated as hiker only and also shared trails with mountain bikers so you can choose whatever works for you.
The trails are well maintained and once you get higher up and on the back side of the mountain there is some shade. Great place to hike with a family/young kids!

This is a fun trail to take with kids - if you access the park from the Evergreen side. It is fun to walk/hike to the ruins of an old castle, and an easy hike for all ages/levels.

We visited on Friday, July 25, 2014. We were staying in Morrison and this wasn't too far away.
The road is very winding and actually goes through a residential area as you near the top of the mountain. The views are OK, but nothing like vistas in the national park nearby. The map shows rest room facilities, but we never found them. There were a lots of people with horses using the trails.
We don't need to go back for average views.

Fantastic trail, great views, but way too crowded.
The trail is wide, well-marked, and well-maintained, and the grade is very gentle. While hikers gain 1200 feet in elevation, this hike is really easy. The views of Denver and Red Rocks are phenomenal throughout much of this hike. You can also see Dinosaur Ridge from the hike! Of course, the castle at the top was very fascinating. There is a placard located at the castle containing information about the castle's builder/owner and the history of the area.
The downside - too many people, including bikers. We arrived at the trailhead on a Monday morning at 0730 and the parking lot was almost full. I wanted to go on a hike...not participate in an obstacle course. I was overall impressed by everyone's trail etiquette (on this trail, hikers have the right-of-way over everyone else) and I liked that this route is dog-friendly (we brought our three!). There are just too many people along the Front Range these days; this will be our last hike near Denver. I never had the feeling I was in nature.

Challenging uphill hike among red rocks with gorgeous views of Red Rocks Ampitheatre and Denver. Great place to get some good exercise before going to the show. :)

One of our favorite places to hike in the area. If you choose to do the 8 mile loop, plenty of great views and an interesting stop at the old Walker Mansion. Easy trails, restrooms at start but try and get there early, especially on weekends, as parking can get scarce. You can avoid the bikes by staying on the east side. Great excuse for getting outdoors.

The last several times I have visited this park, I have been harassed by loose dogs, and on one recent occasion, I was bitten, but it did not break the skin. Despite signs, and "regulations" stating that dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet, the park is rarely patrolled, and dogs commonly run loose. They like to run up to hikers who just want to be left alone, and give them a good "smellin" and "lickin", (and maybe more) much to the delight of the owner, who observes his happy dog from afar. Also, colorful plastic bags of "dog poo" line the trails, especially after a busy weekend. If you are a dog owner, this park is "hog heaven", but if you just want peace, and be left alone, and feel safe, it is terror central. The staff is in denial and will not respond to dog complaints.

We spent a lovely morning on a loop around the top of this mountain park with frequent gorgeous vistas. Dogs are allowed on leash. Parking was not up to the demand but many people parked safely but illegally on the side of the road entering the parking lot.

Was wondering where exactly you park to do the hike you mentioned. I have a 6 year old so wanted to make it fairy easy hike, but seams like there is a few lots that changes the distances of the hikes. Thanks!

We always use the Indian Hills entrance as we come in from Evergreen. Parking has never been an issue but we usually get there in AM before it gets too hot in Summer.

Yes you can walk around the castle. There is wooden fencing around main areas but you can still enjoy the view and get the “jest” of the area.
You can still get some great photos.
Bring water.
Beautiful flowers and area. Enjoy!
