We were told that the synagogue/museum in Leadville was interesting and worth seeing, but we had no idea how fascinating it would be. The person responsible for buying and restoring the building that was a synagogue originally built in the 1880s is on site to...More

We've visited Leadville many times and never knew this old temple was here. Jewish families, who called Leadville their home during the mining boom and bust cycles, made contributions to the local economy and society that was far larger than their numbers relative to the...More

We were so excited to know that there was a Temple in Leadville. Built in the heyday of Leadville by a small but powerful Jewish community (including May of May Department Stores!). The unofficial tour was informative and pictures and history rich! Thanks to Mr....More

My wife and I happened to spot this out-of-the-way historical gem and were glad we did. We spent the better part of an hour browsing through the artifacts, exhibits, and displays of what was a Jewish synagogue in the late 19th century. After the number...More

This old synagogue has been beautifully restored into a museum, although they have services here one day a year. It is very interesting and does not take long to see.

Temple Israel is an interesting place to visit. It tells the story of early Jewish settlers in the West. Two famous merchants got their start in Leadville, and the advertisements and photos from that era make interesting reading.

We are very sorry and somewhat surprised that you found us to be a "sad testament". An important part art of our message is meant to convey that Jews in Leadville actually enjoyed considerable success and social prominence with virtually no anti-Semitic incidents in the...More

Worth a visit. Very interesting reading the history of the synagogue. Gives you an idea of the Jewish history there during the mining days. Gives some history of Leadville also.
