More
The Museum of the West offers a thousand years of history that can be experienced. “Ride” in a stagecoach, “fly” a 1958 Cessna from Walker Field or gaze upon an ancient cup and ladle from the Anasazi. Study Ute and Fremont Rock Art, see the real firearms that outlaws used, sit in a one-room schoolhouse, and visit the Pastime saloon to experience western Americana at its best. The Sterling T. Smith Education Tower offers a 360° view of our impressive surrounding geography. Tower top displays include a working weather station, and provide information on downtown historic preservation efforts, regional archaeology and geology. Visitors can also connect to a wealth of historical, genealogical and natural history materials in the Loyd Files Research Library, located on the second floor of the Museum of the West.

This museum is smaller than we expected, but it really is packed with information on strangely diverse subjects. Spanish exploration, the Ute Indians (& others not from this area), early baseball & the making of bats, a history of local sheriffs (with a display of...More

A nice museum that shows just what some of our ancestors dealt with and how they built up the western slope of Colorado.

Some interesting exhibits and good for kids. I like climbing the tower for the view. Lot of history of the area as well as an interesting collection of artifacts. Very casual and good price.

Although downtown Grand Junction isn't the easiest city to navigate, the museum (and other attractions) are pretty well signed. There are a lot of thoughtful exhibits, from indigenous times to the 1900's. We enjoyed our visit.

This museum has a recreated (small) mine, Native American artifacts, Spanish explorer items, early baseball display, old schoolhouse, bar, danceroom, soldier, and firearms display (almost all the sheriffs of the county's pistols). They also have a few items that children can experience: piloting a twin-engine...More

The museum is set up in such a way that one walks through a series of displays starting with the Spanish explorers and ending in recent times. I especially like the tower, about 5 stories tall, on top one gets a 360 view of Grand...More
