As others have said, this hike is straight up and over large rocks. It is difficult and the altitude is a factor. My husband and I took it slow and wondered if we would make it through the last uphill stretch - but we made it no problem! It is well worth the hike - Hanging Lake is beautiful. A... More

A slightly challenging but quick hike with much reward at the top. It is about an hour from Vail. The hike round trip takes about 2-3 hours. Free. Be aware of the no dog rules.

Definitely a difficult but short hike. (1.5-3 hours round trip) Worth it though. Beautiful view of the canyon and lake. I would recommend bringing a lot of water! Trail gets tricky when it's wet.

If you're sure footed and you don't mind hiking straight up a hill, you'll love this hike! Beautiful and worth the effort.

Oh what a place of serenity and beauty! Being able to see this wonderful place on earth is worth every drop of sweat during the hike. We arrived very early and avoided the crowds. Unintentionally, but very luckily we also arrived on time to watch the sun moving in over the waterfalls and lake. Very special and magical. I would... More

Rocky trail at places, but under going work as of this month (Sept. 2015). Looks just like in this picture. But, need good hiking shoes and to be in pretty good shape or it will be slow going.

Our rafting guide suggested this place to us for rest of the day. We started the trail around 12:30 and were glad since morning showers disappeared by then. Sign on highway said parking is full, but we got a lucky spot when we got there. Trail is very rocky and difficult as it goes straight uphill, but totally worth it.... More

This is a really lovely hike, but very popular. So the best advice I can give you is to get there early so that you can get a parking space. We got there at about 10:30 on a holiday weekend, and parking was full. We went to the next hwy exit east of the Hanging Lake exit. But it made... More
