About
Frisco Bay Marina is a certified clean marina located on the shores of scenic Dillon Reservoir in the heart of Summit County, Colorado. The Reservoir spans 3,300 acres and boasts 25 miles of shoreline surrounded by majestic peaks. At 9,017 feet in elevation, the boating season is weather dependent, but typically runs from early June to mid September. Frisco Bay Marina sits on the eastern end of Frisco's charming Main Street and brings lake life to this quintessential mountain town with boat and paddle sport rentals, a boat ramp, mooring and slip rentals, a 300 foot long sandy beach, a playground, grassy lawns for picnics, and water view dining. Dillon Reservoir is also a world class destination for sailing, and regattas are regularly held on the reservoir.

I wish there was a way to leave this fewer than one star for the miserable and unsafe experience we had there today. My wife had made reservations there several weeks ago for us to take out some kayaks for my birthday. When we got there, we waited in a long line to check in. Not a problem, it's a holiday weekend, so a long line was expected. However, after check in is when things got bad.
We were given paperwork to take from the check-in location to the kayak shed. We had to wait in line again at the kayak shed. After waiting in that long line we were told we had the wrong paperwork, and had to go back and wait in the original line. So we did that, came back and were told we still had the wrong paperwork. So we went back to the original line for a third time. Then waited in line at the kayak shed. We finally got our life jackets and were sent to the dock, where they told us that they had ran out of paper work. So then we had to wait in line for a 7th time to get a refund.
The entire process of waiting in 7 different lines took well over an hour. This would have been bad on a normal day, but to be packed into lines multiple times for no reason during a pandemic was unconscionable. The worst part was that this could have been prevented by them simply tracking their inventory and told us they didn't have the boats for us when we checked in. And they could have had the paperwork we needed to sign at the kayak shed so we didn't have to go back in forth an wait in a line 7 times. Or the kayak shed personnel could have called the check in desk to make sure they gave us the paperwork we needed.
Needless to say, spending my birthday to wait in lines for an hour and go home, was less than ideal.

We had the displeasure of renting a pontoon boat from this facility. While staff gives you explicit instructions to return the boat to the marina in case of bad weather, they neglected to tell you that they offer no refunds or prorated fees for shortened time.
Conditions on Lake Dylan were unsafe with very large whitecaps and lightning in the area.
Staff had the nerve to say we can’t offer adjustments or refunds because if we did “we wouldn’t make any money”. Oh, I get it. Money over personal safety.
Go to the marina in Dillon. The staff is much friendlier and has your safety in mind.

I'm sad to report this but I feel residents and tourist should know. My family lives in Denver but we like to visit summit county a lot during the summer. In late June 2018 my family came up to the Frisco Bay Marina and saw a uniformed man spraying the pesticide Round-Up all around the Frisco Bay Marina. He was spraying this chemical on boulders, beach areas between the docks and many other areas that kids were frequently playing around. I told the kids/parents that a man just sprayed pesticides and they left the area immediately. Round-Up pesticide has been shown to be associated with cell disfunction that can cause illnesses like lymphoma and cancer. Not only is this pesticide all over the marina area and near a playground but it's now in the Dillion Reservoir. I'm shocked that a place that you would think is for nature and beauty would also be supporting chemicals and anything poisoning the immediate natural surroundings. I only hope this issue gets some attention and future pesticides stopped around the reservoir. I mean if we can't even swim in the reservoir to keep it clean why are they spraying pesticides then??? Is this nuts or what.

We apologize for the delayed response, but we wanted to be sure that we provided the most accurate and thoughtful response possible. We understand and respect your concerns regarding weed management activities and water quality near the Frisco Bay Marina, but please rest assured that all efforts to control noxious weeds conform with Colorado state standards for common best management practices and do not pose an environmental or public health threat. We live and recreate here as well and would never want to put our environment or safety at risk. Through the Colorado Noxious Weed Act, the State of Colorado has mandated that “a countywide plan must be implemented by every county to prevent further damage by these noxious weed species.” In 2000, Summit County adopted a Weed Management Plan with the aim of controlling noxious weed populations that pose a serious threat to the economic value and environmental stability of the land and water in the County. The Town of Frisco, which owns the Frisco Bay Marina, is required to follow this plan as well and contracts directly with the Summit County Weed Control Program to manage noxious weeds within Town boundaries. The County Weed Control Program does not use Round-up herbicide. The County utilizes a selective herbicide specific for the noxious weeds being treated and spot sprays it on individual plants only. They do not treat the sandy beach or playground areas at all. Additionally, an added surfactant helps the herbicide remain in place and, once dry, is unlikely to enter the reservoir. Weed control activities do not occur if winds exceed 10 mph, or if rain is in the immediate forecast. We hope this addresses your concerns, however, if you have further questions regarding the County’s efforts to manage weeds near the Frisco Bay Marina, or elsewhere in Summit County, please contact the Summit County Weed Control Program directly, or visit their website at: http://www.co.summit.co.us/114/Weed-Control.

They advised us to get there early which we did (about 10 minutes), and 40 minutes later, after an excruciating experience trying to get licenses and equipment, we headed out onto the water for a 4 hour fishing excursion. 10 minutes later our boat broke down. We called the office at least 12 times and left several messages which all went unanswered. We dialed 911 to reach the “sheriff on the water”, who arrived after about 10 minutes. She tried to give us a jump to no avail but towed us back to the marina. They gave us another boat told us we could have an extra 30 minutes (this is 90 mins after we should have left the dock) and we went out and washed lures for 2.5 hours. When we returned, they tried to charge us for a missing hook and weights. Don’t waste your time here.

Thank you for your feeback. We do believe this is one of the most beautiful reservoirs in Colorado, but we were having a less than beautiful day with the motor on one of our boats and we are truly sorry for that. Also, we are regret the problems you had processing the Colorado State fishing licenses, and it is unfortunate that the only identification allowed by the State of Colorado is a driver’s license or a passport, even if the individual is just 16, but luckily there was someone at home who could get you a picture of that passport to get them out to fish. Colorado Parks and Wildlife just stocked the Dillon Reservoir this morning with 100,000 rainbow fingerlings to help feed the browns, and perhaps, grow a few bigger rainbows, so hopefully there will be less washing of lures in the future. If you would like to try your hand at fishing Dillon Reservoir again, we will gladly get you out on another boat on us.

My girls were super excited to rent two paddle boards. On Saturday they went into the rental office to check on availability and pricing. The girls went in back and forth, back and forth into the office because nothing was available, and finally landed on the fact we would have to come in the following day. My husband had to then come in to pay in full to hold the spot - no problem. We arranged our entire Sunday around being there at the specified time. We did a hike in the morning, and busted our tails to get there. Got to the counter and spoke with Adam (the lead). He had trouble locating our reservation, asked for my name several times which is always nerve racking. Adam found my reservation finally, and then looked at my girls and asked their age. They are 14, and he was almost delighted to tell me their not old enough. Information that would would have been great to know yesterday. I was told if I was out on the water with them that’s fine (I wasn’t even close to being dressed to get wet). It would have required for me to pay for a 3rd rental, IF it was available. And no I couldn’t be on one of the 2 paddle boards with both girls on the other (2 people on paddle boards all over the place) etc, ect. At that point I was ready to leave with disappointed girls. No apologies from Adam. Oh, I do get a refund on my credit card that will show up in 3-5 days.

We're so sorry that this was your experience. Please accept our apologizes. Most of us are parents too so we know that the disappointment experienced by our kids is the toughest. It sounds like we could have done a much better job of asking the pertinent questions regarding the age of your girls. We'll chat with our staff about this situation so we can learn from it. We would love to make it right for your family, if you are ever back in the area. Paddle boarding on Dillon Reservoir is really magical, and we want to make sure you experience it. Please email me at VanessaA@TownofFrisco.com.

There is something for everyone to do here. Work on your tan on the beach, Kayak. Paddleboard. Eat at the grill/restaurant and listen to live music on certain nights.

We rented a speedboat for 2 hours over the 4th of July weekend. What a fun way to really see the lake and entertain 2 families. I would like to make this an annual outing. Simply call ahead for the reservation and then you watch a video about the rules and regulations of the lake and you are off on the adventure.

Rented a pontoon boat for 12 (max limit) on Dillon Lake, which was absolutely lovely. Started raining one hour into our rental and the company credited us for the remaining hour. Highly recommend booking ahead online.

Dillon and Frisco have launch ramps, but you will need to be prepared for a boat inspection due to threats from invasive species (just at stated above) and launch ramps have specific hours (heads up Frisco's ramp is closed on July 4th).
