Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a beautiful and large off-leash dog park. There is access to the water which is awesome. It does unfortunately get very muddy after rain and there is a man who visits daily and gives out treats to dogs even after dog parents ask him not to. As a dog mom to pup with a food allergy, this is a problem.
Once the unwelcome treats stop and it is dry, it is a great off-leash dog park to visit.

This is one of the best off leash dog parks anywhere. Right along the river with lots of trails. Watch for snakes in the summer. And be responsible pet owners, if you know what I mean.

What a terrible place for a little terrier!!! There is no grass, all dirt, dust, sand burrs that get into his coat and the surface is very rough for a city dog! There is no easy access to the river without climbing over rocks and if your dog were to venture out, the river looks to have a strong enough current to cause with water. Also, many warnings of rattlesnakes although we didn't see any. People kept telling us, just a little further, easy access to river. Never saw it even though we went almost to the end. What a terrible place.

Took our active pup here several times during our vacation in Durango. It's really clean with plenty of poop bags. Shade, benchs and opportunities to splash in the river. Lots of warning signs about rattlesnacks - good to have the reminder but we did not see any.

As a local I often visit our dog park. It is usually very clean as folks are conscious of our "pick up" duties. I have never found the pick up bag dispenser to be empty. Our dog loves to play in the river which is easily accessible along the trail. There are always friendly dogs ready to play fetch with anyone willing to throw a ball.

Our dog gets really excited when we get close to the park.
This is one of the largest dog parks we have visited, with level trails and higher trails and also access right down to the Animas River. There is lots of room to throw a Frisbee or toss a ball to your pup. It is quite dusty, so we often have to hose our pup of when we get home.
Parking can be limited during busy times, but we have always found a spot.

We like the size, river access, and hiking possibilities. It is a bit...dusty, close to the busy road, and ‘unpatrolled’. But we would come back again.

Love any large dog park that still has grass and offers lots of room for my dog to run, run, run and chase balls. My dog not too into the river, but a fun addition for those dogs that enjoy water.

Is bear spray recommended for hiking in Durango? Do you hike with your dogs? Thanks

We live here, hike every other day in locations all over the Silverton-Durango area, and we have never heard anyone relate an encounter with a bear. It may be different way in the backcountry, but we only do day hikes. We do hike with our dogs off leash, and have never had any problems, but our mutts are pretty mellow; they have never chased any wildlife.
