Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Mayan is a staple in Denver. It has two theatres on the main level and one on the top level. There is a bar upstairs and you can take a drink into any of the theatres. The seats are not new, but the intricate design of the space and art work is so worth the visit. They show independent and international films. You can be assured that if you go to a film there you'll see a good one!

When I was a little girl about five years old, my older brother (who was six) and I would walk from our little duplex in the 200 block of East Alameda to the Mayan Theatre almost every Saturday. We had ten cents to spend, 5 cents for admission to the theatre and 5 cents for a treat. I remember thinking how grown up we were and how wonderful that our parents trusted us to walk that far, to spend a couple of hours watching a movie and then to walk all the way back home. What we never realized is that our Dad was right behind us every week, and even sat in the balcony and watched the movie too. He never took his eye from us, yet gave us the greatest sense of independent responsibility any two children of that age could have had. The only thing I can ever remember doing "wrong" was stopping at the appliance store down the street on the way home to watch the tv's they had on display in the showroom. We had been told to come straight home after the movie, and in a way we did, we just stopped along the way! What over the top, wonderful memories of my childhood!

So to all the people who helped to preserve this piece of my Childhood, from the whole of my heart, thank you. To see it still standing brought tears to my eyes!

We did not enjoy a movie but definitely enjoyed our visit to the theater. The facade is unique and the interior a step back in time. We sought out the other building in the city designed by the same architect to absorb that one as well

This is not a mego audio / megaplex theatre. It is a theatre from the past but well maintained for its age. The best part is the bar. You can get beer and wine. The theater shows mainly independent films but will have a major picture from time-to-time.

We had heard its a little more expensive but the popcorn and drinks are FREE!! $9 on an early matinee. We took the kids to see Snow White. VERY SMALL theaters but it makes it great because the chairs are super comfy and you don't feel completely overwhelmed by mega theaters with hundreds of people (many talking and texting). Small boutique theater that plays a lot of the independent films but also a few popular ones. The tickets are a tiny bit more expensive than other theaters but the service is truly top notch. Every seat is perfect and they even have RESERVED seating on the website (so you can pick where you sit and not have to rush or get there early). They even have waitstaff (you read it right) for the reserved seating. Even better they have a BAR (yes, perfect for date night) and you can drink a beer and enjoy the movie. Kids are welcome (rumor had it was no kids allowed) but they welcomed our 4, 8, and 11 year olds right in to see the early Snow White (Mirror, Mirror) movie on a Saturday. Nice covered parking (think summer shade!!) and there were no teenagers on cellphones the whole movie to ruin it. Excellent service, excellent staff - it's our favorite place to see a movie and the kids love it. They love getting their own popcorn and drinks and its just a perfect place to see a movie. Will gladly go back!!

Like, (or unlike), some of these old theaters that have been made into movie houses, this one is still chopped up into three separate screens. The Decour is amazing, the seats are comfortable, the sound system is good, albeit with a somewhat small screen.
Seems like they mostly show offbeat, indie films, which I love!

This is a Denver tradition. Denverites know this theater, but if you are from out of town and decide to catch a film - go here! You will have an experience, not just a movie. It is a unique historic building. They play wonderful off the beaten track movies, not just mainstream blockbusters. They offer some different choices of snacks.

The Mayan is a fabulous, old fashioned theater with a great line up of shows. You'll always find something interesting showing and good ice cream nearby.
