The 4th of July celebration is an excellent event. Get there early. There is music and fireworks with a light show. Also good for people watching.

Visit during the day. The closer to night fall you stay the more bums arrive drunk and stoned! This area is prime for being robbed at night.

Civic Center Park could be a beautiful asset, but it is filled with homeless people and their tents, shopping carts and trash.
