Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Seems like COVID has hit Denver hard. I'm sure this was a nice, well-maintained area before, but right now it's filled with homeless people, garbage, tents, etc. I walked by around 5PM and it didn't feel unsafe, but was definitely uncomfortable with so many pan handlers and litter everywhere.

Not to mention all the nice looking govt buildings are bordered with chain fenced to prevent any access.

Don't visit until Denver has a handle on the homeless issue.

Park has never looked so good. With events finally coming back it seems that the homeless have decided to go elsewhere. After seeing what it looked like on the news over the last year I was shocked how amazing the park is looking these days.

I am from a big city on the East Coast, so I am used to panhandlers, city life, etc. As we were walking through the area, all we saw were panhandlers and shady people hanging around. We didn't see any families or tourists on a nice Spring day. I would definitely not walk here after dark.

We arrived in Denver, to see something here, so our first direction lets visit the capitol, after we had to cross this park,

Surrounded with homeless hippies and drugs smoking wallers. After we arrived at the capitol i was high as f**! It was so disgusting so we git our outside pics from
Here and left Denver ad hoc.

Is this what the government want? Legalize drugs and make a pot paradise in front of there state capitol?

Good job!

The photo gallery associated with this park does not accurately display the state of dereliction the park is currently in. I've been walking through this park in transit from capitol hill and LoBo and there were several sights that shocked me so much that I turned around on my first approach.
1. the entire area is fenced in with temporary fences as if in a state of siege
2. the area is flooded with groups of homeless lounging on the park masonry while acting strange or belligerent
3. The grounds are in a state of disrepair with trash and graffiti everywhere
4. law enforcement appears to have given up as not a single officer was patrolling the grounds despite the commotion

The civic buildings are majestic and I originally wanted to tour the grounds but I cant imagine anyone deriving any enjoyment from the site in it's current state.

The park looks great, but there are so many homeless/street people that is is way too unsafe to explore. I can’t believe the city doesn’t do more about this problem. Denver is a nice city but this park and Colfax are just overrun with street people. It’s sad because it is so cold too, why doesn’t the city do something about this?

Historically located between several streets, this large body-strewn lawn of a park used to bestow a free contact high just from a brisk walk-across. Since Colorado voters accidentally joke-voted in mass, while ironically stoned, to legalize recreational marijuana in 2008, however, the haze has lifted because, and I quote a park regular, "it's just not that fun anymore. Hey, you got a dollar for the bus?"

Lots of homeless hanging around lots of people drinking very bad for the image. Of the city the police should clean that up. Lots of people selling pot in that park l would stay away. From that place no good

The design of the park is spot on. The Capitol building on one end and the Denver City & County Building on the other end .A 25,000 square foot grassy area with wonderful flower beds, large shade trees and sitting benches lie between the two stately buildings. Flanked on the sides by a Greek Amphitheatre and the McNichols Civic Center, it is a well maintained park. There are access roads surrounding the park which is nice for their annual Taste of Colorado, Peoples Fair, Bik-in-movies and other festivals. There is even a free shuttle which runs on the 16th street pedestrian mall that will take you to the park area. It was late afternoon when I was in the park area and I did see some people that appeared homeless. No one approached for any reason including asking for money. I have to say that I am 6' 1"" and 200 lbs, however I do not think I would want my daughter walking there late at night. All and all it is a great park and an area of Denver which has a lot of attractions worth visiting.

I was born and raised in Denver, now live in S. Fla., and was in Denver this summer visiting with my kids. We went to the History Colorado then walked through Civic Center Park on the way to the Light Rail. This was a weekday afternoon, and I could not believe my eyes: transvestites, drug dealers, passed out homeless people. It was disgusting! We ran through here. How this is happening right between the City and County Building and the State Capitol is beyond me. I lived in Washington, D.C., and even that wasn't this decrepit. What has happened to my hometown?
