We climbed Mt Evans from Summit Lake with our 10 year old twins on the evening of the full moon in October. We timed getting to the summit to be there at sunset and we're treated to the glorious sight of the shadow of the peak crossing the Plains , followed by the rise of the harvest moon over Denver's... Great ride on a hot day. Close to Denver and a twisty ride. Good pavement. Grab lunch in Idaho Springs before returning to Denver.

Sweet mountain road from Evergreen to Idaho Springs with amazing scenery. Mountains, gorges, lakes, wildlife. A bit slick in winter, but easy during summer. Bring a picnic, there's tables up top.

I grew up in the mountains and am used to windy, narrow roads, but this made even me nervous. So be aware of that! Steep cliffs, winding road, and no guardrails - but the drive up and the view at the top is beautiful! And lots of fun things to see along the way!

The winding road up the mountain is kind of narrow. Not for flat landers or acrophobiacs.who are driving. Some nice scencery, watch out for the white (non-native) mountain goats. About half way up there is park with a lake. At the top there is an observatory. At the bottom there is a lake and a restaurant serving standard American fare.

Drive slow and enjoy the landscape! You will need the camera and get out of the car and walk around at the pull outs. A must see in Colorado!!

Not the best place to go if you're looking for isolated and serene. However, if you need a quick day trip that's an hour away from Denver, this is a beautiful place to go.

If you are going to Utah, the southern route along I-70 is much more scenic than the I-80 route, unless you like activities like counting fenceposts. Goes through an amazing moutain pass just west of Denver. If you have time drive the Mount Evans scenic byway, it is worth it...in the summer. In the winter you might end up shoving... More
