A key feature in the Denver skyline because of its gold bell-shaped dome, the Capitol Building, fittingly in the Mile High City, has a point located at exactly 5,280 feet above sea level. Free tours are available for visitors.

The tour is free ( one does go through security ), the guide was informative, however was rather stuffy and did impose his views of the world. The view from the dome was pleasant, however, all one does really see is downtown. On a note...More

I love touring state capitals, this one isn't any different. There are always beautiful stain glass and artifacts all over the place. You also can climb up to high levels too. You can see down a long street which is a cool view. I wish...More

Was walking around downtown Denver, saw the capital was there and decided to go in and take a look. The security at the front offered me an information packet about the capital building. The visit was very interesting, didn't take the free tour since it...More

I didn't take the free tour - but would have loved too. It was getting late in the afternoon and I wanted to get into the Colorado History Museum. A very nice volunteer gave a quick overview of what makes the capitol special. The building...More

During renovations, public entrance is through the East side. We took the free guided tour on a Friday afternoon, hosted by a History major who was knowledgeable and engaging. We learned a lot of the history and colorful characters of Colorado and Denver, and the...More

We saw the rotunda from a distance, along with the scaffolding. It was still worth the trip - the stairs in front of the capitol have 3 markers that are at the 1 mile height. There is a beautiful view from the top of the...More

The building was nice to look at, but there wasn't a ton to see inside in my opinion. They do offer free guided tours if you're interested, or you can explore on your own. I hear the observation deck is great but it was unfortunately...More

Very interesting place with gorgeous views of the city. Join a free guided tour, it's very informative and only then you're allowed to walk up to the dome and see beautiful views of Denver and Rocky Mountains.

There are public lots all around the capitol. Most are reasonably priced. If you're staying at one of the downtown hotels I would recommend catching the 16th Street Bus.
