Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I didn’t expect to find Denver dirtier and smellier than my hometown, which has earned the nickname of Filthadelphia, but I did. As others have posted, on a warm day, this area smells like urine. Trash is everywhere and there are people acting erratically, even in during the day. Weirdly, many things are closed on Sundays, even the CVS, and our hotel bar was closed when we arrived at around 10:30 on a Friday night.
I greatly enjoyed other parts of Colorado, so unless you have a reason to visit Denver, I would recommend skipping it.

Like most places! Felt safe enough during the day but it would def be sketchy at late night or women alone. I’m not a person who this bothers a lot until something happens to make me feel vulnerable. But a homeless man had an outburst during the middle of the day- I’d say he was an addict from the looks of him- which I tried not to look but he was throwing stuff from a doorway! The businesses were interesting and the food was amazing at most the restaurants! There are some areas that you don’t see as many homeless people but they are always a few. Mental illness and drugs seem to be a big part of the issue.

Kind of shabby and homeless everywhere. The streets were loaded with homeless encampments and people at all hours of the day and night. I'm not sure how safe the streets are for a woman travelling alone. I was with a group so I felt ok but wouldn't have ventured out if not for being in a group.

Trendy part of downtown filled with many bars and restaurants. Anchored by Union Station with Coors Field, home of the Rockies, nearby. We chose to stay in this area when visiting Denver last weekend and the Hotel Indigo was great. However, lots of homeless in this area as we saw throughout downtown Denver. Never felt threatened but it was just sad to see.

Great place to stay, with lots of restaurant options around. There was a fair amount of homeless around. We noticed these taxes on anything we bought which we found out was a historical preservation tax, and found a lot of places charge up to 24% for service and preservation fees. This was just an unexpected expense to the budget. If you are looking for a trendy location with lots of options i walking distance, LoDo is perfect.

It is a perfect neighborhood to explore on foot even though the free 16th Street Mall bus shuttle makes it easier for those who do not fancy urban hikes. A lot of homeless but not nearly as many as in Philadelphia Pa, Portland Or or Washington DC. The streets are lively and reasonable safe. Many interesting stores and endless dining options.

If your planning a trip to Denver, and are already set on going, then you have to check out LoDo. Known as Lower Downtown, this is the best place in downtown to catch it all. Wonderful shopping, restaurants, and nightlife, LoDo has something for everyone....One of the best places to experience the Denver culture and excitement!

We planned to spend a week's vacation staying in LoDo , Lower Downtown Denver, and bicycling around the city. On arrival, we found many stores deserted and boarded up, freaky-looking young people walking around with liquor bottles, and a lot of dive-looking bars. Downtown Denver is not what it once was. We got out of town fast and suggest you avoid this area, too.

Denver was in much better shape prior to retail marijuana. Now there are homeless people everywhere, the city smells like a urinal, people relieve themselves openly in public and the begging is aggressive and can be intimidating. I couldn't believe how filthy and disgusting some of the areas we walked around had become. There was actually a makeshift box toilet in one of the ally's. Disgusting.

This the second time I have been there. It only gets better. Nothing better sitting on an outside patio, drinking a beer overlooking the Rockies in the distance as the sun goes down.

I’m relocating in the next few months and will be working in downtown Denver. I’m considering living in Lower Downtown (LoDo). Is it a good area to live? How is safety during the day and at night? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

We would love suggestions on where to stop for a quick lunch. We are driving through Denver on our way to Avon. We want to explore the LoDo area and grab lunch at a local restaurant.

Hi Avon Traveler,
So if the operative word is "quick" I would recommend going to Union Station which is fronted by Wynkoop Street. That block features short-term valet ($) and UBER parking but you then dont have to mess with finding a meter. Wynkoop Brewery is a landmark pub/eatery, there is also the Thirsty Lion (and several others) in the Union Station Terminal building as well. All within 1 block, very people-friendly and energetic atmosphere.
Have fun!

how is the parking in that area? a nightmare ? or easy to find ?

I drove down there twice on a weekend (Rockies weren't home) and didn't have any problem finding a street parking spot. Only 2 hours though. There are parking garages throughout the area and with the free shuttle in the area, it won't be too awful. Good Luck

Hello!
We are planning a family reunion at C Lazy U ranch this July. We are looking for a reasonably priced hotel to spend a night gathering first, coming from all over the world. The next morning we will shuttle to our ranch. As people will be arriving through out the prior day, can you please suggest hotels in the LoDo area.
Thank you kindly, Linda

There are many hotels near LoDo (walking distance or short Uber/Cab ride)... not so many in LoDo itself! The most affordable decent hotels will run you US$150 per room per night! I recommend that you go on Trivago and search for Denver for the date you want and once you have the selection, go to the map where it will show you what is available near LoDo (area near Union Station and Coors Fields). Good luck!

Sorry it took me a bit to reply but I do have to agree with Taylor B. They are great suggestions. Especially Jazz @ Jacks. And if your wanting to check out a place that will Serve great food and a Damn good drink. Accross the street from Jazz @ Jacks is the Paramount Cafe. I do agree with Taylor B's suggestions though. Enjoy!
