It is really easy to find on the right hand side as you enter the Refuge. There is a parking spot with a trail that is about 1/2 mile to the lighthouse with a wooden bench if you get tired. Don't fret if you can't...More

Lighthouse images are everywhere. I used to yawn when I saw Yet Another Lighthouse Calendar or Inspirational Poster. Then I found myself crossing Tom's Cove in the dark. I had been going to Assateague for years, backpacking, kayaking, snorkeling, beachcombing, and following wild ponies. I...More

I am a lighthouse fan. I have visited lighthouses all over the United States. This is, by far, one of my most favorite lighthouses I have visited. Maybe it's the location, maybe it's the wild ponies, maybe it's the quiet, but it's probably a combination...More

We stopped to look at the old lighthouse. It has 175 steps to the outside landing at the top of the lighthouse. Well maintained, excellent views at the top. You could see the ponies, but they were extremely far away for the naked eye. Great...More

We absolutely loved Assateague Refuge. The trails, beaches, bathrooms, wash off stations everything was clean and well worth the $20 Pass that's good for a week to get into the park and to the beach. We left a coin on the stone that tells of...More

So cool to walk up the 175 steps (there are places to stop and rest) and see the two islands from the top! Staff was informative. Wear bug spray, cuz the short walk to it is very buggy. But the views are worth it!!!

Bathe in it. Bring a bottle with you. Slather it on you like it's going out of style. Do not say you weren't warned. We got to the door of the light house and there was a CLOUD of mosquitoes. They were noshing on people...More

I had read previous reviews about using bug spray, so we brought some with us. That wasn't the entire issue, but, it was part of the problem. We put deep woods Off, on and we still had bugs biting us. By the time we got...More

Although I didn't climb (my guy did), I had a delightful time with the volunteer at the base/in the tiny shop. What a cool guy! Made it special. The view was great without going to the top, though here's one from the "climber."

Its a short mosquito dodging walk from the parking lot to this free admission attraction. Small children were able to make the walk up to the top. Could see horses and beach area. Unless your afraid of heights, its a must do.
