We found this museum while driving to our next destination. Very impressive insect and butterfly collection and well preserved, considering most of them are about 100 years old. Insects from all over the world and I'm sure some are currently extinct. This is supposed to be about 10% of the original collection being displayed. Can you imagine if the whole... More

This museum is off the beaten path and so worth the trip! They have on display 7000 different bugs, butterflies, moths, two fruit bats, a live Black Widow spider; the list could go on and on. The specimens come from all over the world and are identified as to what they are, where they were found, the date and the... More

This museum is a massive collection of insects. The grand daughter is now the curator of this collection as well as owner and operator of the campground that is at the same location. This collection is very informative with an education you won't receive quite anywhere else. Beautiful butterflies, beetles, spiders, and all manor of bugs were absolutely way cool!... More

This is better than most of road side style museums that I've visited in Colorado and the price is reasonable for the time it takes to view the collection. My children both love bugs and wanted to go here in winter but it was closed so we made a special trip back to see it in the fall (September). We... More

If you are into bugs this is a 5 star museum. There is a fantastic selection of bugs, I have never seen more, from beautiful butterflies to creepy beetles. If you have extra time, take a drive down Hwy 115 south towards Canon City, not overtly stunning but beautiful.

The exhibit is very old, insects from 1906 to 1940 is 80% of what is there. Most look as cool as the day the were caught. Some of the butterflies colors were amazing. Bugs that looked like creatures from other planet. If you need reading glasses DO NOT FORGET THEM! The fine hand written tags would have been impossible for... More

Came back from my 2nd trip to the May Bug Museum yesterday, was as enthralled as the first time. So much to see in one medium-sized room. My only complaint would be about the lighting, some displays such as the jeweled beetles really needed proper light to show them off. Otherwise, awesome collection. Yeah, the place is a little peculiar.... More

First: this is a museum of insects, which includes some bugs. Yes, it is old, quirky, out of the way. Don't think of camping here! This is the largest insect collection outside the Smithsonian. Only a segment of the collection is displayed at any time. The insects receive loving good care, and are in amazingly good condition. The $6 admission... More

You may not associate exotic insects with Colorado- But the May Bug Museum is quite the treat! I've read so many reviews complaining about the age of the place and the "kitschy" feel to it. get over it people! It makes me sad to read people complaining about the loss of their $6 admission. The museum is old and that... More
