About
Housed in an award winning art-deco facility, the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College has been the cultural center of the Pikes Peak region for nearly a century. With roots reaching back to the Broadmoor Art Academy, the Fine Arts Center has striven to promote the importance of fine art from its inception in 1936. The FAC's museum boasts a large permanent collection of regional, national, and international artists and hosts an array of traveling exhibitions. In addition to the museum, the Fine Arts Center also houses a Broadway-caliber theater with its own theater company as well as an established art school.

As of June 1, 2021 the museum is closed to visitors due to COVID-19. I found this out by calling the number on the website. Unless you have certain government ID's, you must submit a visitor pass request at least a day in advance by 1pm local time, FYI.

Families are not consistently welcome.
Nov. 2019
I love art. I am an engineer, and an artist. I believe in instilling culture and the arts in children. Unfortunately, this is not a consistently child-friendly place. They have a tactile gallery where everyone is welcoming to children, but if you go anywhere else, the docents often chase you around, waiting for someone to do something they could reprimand you for. Rather than welcoming our family into the different galleries with gentle reminders, the intro lines were "don't touch anything!" and they literally chased us around repeating reminders even though all of the children were perfectly behaved. My kids were scared into crying (literally). After having eaten lunch in the courtyard and cleaning several of the table and chairs, and always leaving a place cleaner than we find it, it was really sad to be treated this way. Don't even think about bringing sealed and closed water containers into the galleries, you cannot carry them through for convenience if you are old and in a wheelchair or pregnant with several children and things to hold and remember. (Although I am sure you can drink wine and eat hors d'oeuvres in the galleries for executive parties!) Don't even think about discreetly nursing a baby or changing a diaper in a completely empty gallery. It is sad that even on free days the art museum is generally empty. If the docents were consistently trained to be kind and welcoming to families I am sure they could have more traffic. At this time though, if they don't want children in the museum, it might as well be closed to children and they can leave only the tactile gallery open to all guests. Sadly, we had such a hard time the last time we came, we are all too afraid to visit again... we heard the message loud and clear: We were not welcome!

Sound of Music Performance
Jan. 2020
I have attended theater in New York and London, but tonights performance of The Sound of Music at Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center was one of the best shows I have ever seen. All of the performers were top notch, with beautiful voices, and the musical direction was incredible. We are so lucky to have this theater in Colorado Springs. I can't wait to see the rest of the seasons performances.

Sound of Music!
Dec. 2019
We saw a performance of The Sound of Music here. Very well done. The talent was top notch. The theater is small which add a more intimate feel.

Lots of interesting things
Feb. 2019
Went to a play there. They also have a museum with a variety of different items which change periodically. There are native american items and items from early settlers and Spanish american parts of the regions heritage. If you go to a theater production you can go to the museum free. Next door is the Numismatic association so you can easily spend a few hours between the museums.

Relaxing Lunch with Friends
Sep. 2019
We started with reviewing their very interesting menu. Several items had a special twist or were something I had never seen on a menu before. I was very happy with my choices and was pleased that my French Onion Soup arrived hot. The restaurant was relaxing. We were not rushed and had a very enjoyable conversation.

Wonderful!
Sep. 2019
A great medium sized museum with an emphasis on local and regional art that is well interpreted. Plus there are excellent special exhibits. For a few more days there is a terrific exhibit of wearable art.

Amazing Wearable Art Show on Thru 9-22-19
Sep. 2019
Several of the artist’s displaying in this traveling exhibition design costumes for the Cirque d Soleil.

Every creation you see has been worn in order to be judged, often with an accompanying dance theater ensemble. Precede to the far end of the gallery to view video of the art in use.

The artistry and beauty of these pieces is astounding.
