Note from the residents who live in this home: This is PRIVATE PROPERTY and is not available for tours. Please do not come in through the gates or park in front of any driveways. Please respect the residents who live in the home along with their dog and cats. Many of the sculptures have been removed from the yard already and can be viewed on the UCCS campus.

I lived in the Cheyenne Mountain neighborhood for a long time. I raised all my sons there. One of them was totally inspired by this form of art as a teenager. He went on to get a degree in Fine Arts with metal sculpture. He has since become a well known artist is Durango and Ridgway CO. He could have taken a very different path in life if it wasn't for living in the area and inspiration Starr Kempf"s art had implanted in him as a child. Thank you Starr and RIP.

Wow, these sculptures are so cool, what a talent to whoever designed and built them! The move in the wind, or even just a breeze, and are massive in size. We happened by this house on accident. It is not open to the public and seems to be a private residence, so we did our best to respect that, kept our distance and only took a few snapshots. If you hike to Seven Falls and take the shuttle - this yard is down one of the streets close to the Seven Falls gate - just look to your right as you are approaching the gate.

Saw this as a drive by on one of the tours we took there. These are really amazing pieces of art. There aren't many of them and you just drive by where they are displayed. If your route takes you close try to swing by and see them. Our guide gave us the history of them so if you go yourself you should just read about them first so you know their story.

These wonderful kinetic metal sculptures are huge. They are in the front yard of a private residence. Two were easily visible and could be photographed. About three others were partially hidden by shrubs or trees. Worthwhile to take a drive by.

Most people stumble upon these huge outdoor sculptures while driving between the Broadmoor and Starsmore Discovery Center. The spinning wind turbines and silver color suggest they're made of aluminum, so they can move with just a slight breeze. They're actually made of rather thick steel, painted silver, so their easy, graceful movement is a tribute to the engineering skill of Starr Kempf. There's a tragic aspect to these sculptures, involving suicide, wrangling among the sculptor's descendants, and ill-will in the neighborhood about the tourist traffic. Just try to ignore all that. Enjoy the imagination, whimsy and skill the sculptures express.

When you visit this place, don't linger, it is NOT a public space, and the neighbors (and owners) frown on people who get out of cars to gawk. Instead, drive past, slow down for a spell, and take it in. It is unlike any sculpture garden you have seen before. It is a riveting story that needs no words. The sculptures are pain and purpose of a man's life, made steel, made to flow with the wind. A sad, beautiful, unmatched vision.

These sculptures are in the yard of Starr Kempf's private home. Starr took his own life several years ago and his widow, as far as I know, still resides at the home. That could be the reason for the lack of lawn care. The yard has never been "open" for viewing the sculptures. They were placed all over the yard by Mr Kempf after he finished them and there was never a charge to go by and look. Neighbors complained so much about the traffic and brought some sort of lawsuit that required Mrs Kempf to remove many of the works of art. She leased several of them to some large cities where they can be viewed. I am not sure which cities they are, sorry. I am just clarifying that this is a fabulous sight to see in Colorado Springs whether the lawn looks great or not. It has never been a business; only the work of a man with a great imagination.

Thank you for you review, however we would like to make a correction: Starr's widow had passed away years ago. The property is being taken care of Starr's grandson and his wife.

Mr. Kempf used to come into the steel company where I worked in his old white station wagon to buy material. Such a neat old guy. I brought some visitors to his house once and he was sitting across the street in his car looking back at his work. When the wind blows, it just a little bit of magic and it was breezy that day. I asked him if he was ok and he said "Some people say I'm crazy...I think we are all crazy, it's just a matter of what degree." I was sad to hear he passed, but his genious lives on here at his house and around town. Some of those sculptures weigh in by the ton, yet they float and flutter in the wind. Crazy? Maybe...Genious? You bet!

You can see some from the shuttle that drives you from Seven Falls. We weren't able to go in and see them. They are very large and we'd like to go back and see them better.

Not at all. This is actually a residents home. And you can drive by and admire. There's also a spot to park across the Street.
