We drove up to the blue lakes one morning after it had snowed. Views were so beautiful. We hiked around and saw some marmots, chipmunks, and some pikas, but unfortunately, no mountain goats. It was definitely worth the drive down the unpaved road.

Fairly easy drive, on a decent dirt road. 4wd is not required. The lower lake is a nice view in the valley. The upper lake isn't worth the one lane dirt road up to it, in my opinion. Drive-able up to the lake with a...More

The road isn't great, but you are only on it for about a mile. We went at about 4:30 pm. We parked at the first parking lot and hiked up to the waterfall (as far as we could go). It was not a difficult hike...More

I think the rough road keep away many tourists as this place was uncrowded and really pretty. I didn't see any goats, but really enjoyed the beauty of the cirque and the snow fed lakes.

I used to live out here and loved taking our son back up the dirt road to the lakes. Make sure you stay on your side of the road and your car is good on bumpy dirt roads. The coffee van at the bottom of...More

This pair of lakes, an upper reservoir with a waterfall draining it that is the water source for the lower lake, is an interesting place to visit if you have just hiked up Quandary Peak, have not yet had your fill of an exciting day,...More

Great Views, but the road to the Blue Lakes is two miles of gravel road and it is a very rough road. The view of the lake and the dam is very beautiful. We saw Mountain Goats at high elevations and witnessed them walking down...More

First of all the drive can be made in any vehicle in the summer. I don't know what the road is like in the winter. We rented a minivan and had no trouble getting up there. Once we were up there we park at the...More

This area is not only breathtakingly beautiful, but if you get there mid-morning, there are mountain goats that come down to the parking area to lick salt off the cars, eat, and drink from the lake. They are curious, but will only get about 5...More

I do not know, but I very much doubt it. It is in Monte Cristo Gulch, and most gulches in this part of the Rockies do not have cell service.

We were there on a weekday in late July around noon. There were no goats. If you are already in Breck, this is a short drive off the highway, so you might check. It is hard to tell when they will show up. If you are... More
