About
The rolling hills of Piemonte and the flat plains of Victoria's Goulburn Valley are worlds apart. However the classic tradition of wine making has transferred flawlessly from one hemisphere to the other. When Carlo Monichino migrated from the Asti region in Northern Italy he brought his winemaking skills with him and in 1962, together with his wife Margaret, planted a vineyard in Katunga. The rich soil and excellent climatic conditions make this region ideal for grape growing. In fact vines were first planted in the area in the 1880's, making it one of the oldest grape growing regions in Australia. Monichinos is a true family concern, with Carlo, his son Terry, and daughter Anna all involved. Terry, after studying wine science in Australia and working in the industry overseas, has taken over from Carlo as head winemaker, while Anna manages administration, including functions, and the cellar door. Visitors are welcome and the cellar door is open 7 days a week, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, and Saturday and Sunday 10am-5pm. Call in for a chat over a large range of award winning wines for tasting. Monichino's friendly staff will help you with your wine selection and provide you with information on food and wine matches. Take the time to Relax and enjoy a regional cheese platter with a glass of wine in the well laid out picnic grounds overlooking the vineyard. Cheese Platters, Muffins & Hot drinks available every day.

What a fantastic day. Taste testing some exquisite wines. Hearing about the history and the winemaking. The pizzas were fantastic, and paired with one of the wonderful wines, it was an absolutely delicious experience.
The Muscat was my favourite, but the Durif was also spectacular.
Whether for a Taste Testing, or a casual lunch, this venue is well worth the trip while in the area.

This winery has some good wines. The Shiraz is good and there are also some great fortified wines. I also likes the Pino Gris.
Anna was very helpful and greeted us with a great smile.

Winery is on a food trail in 'Sun Country' - great spot to visit and the Pinot Grigio is worth a taste. If in the area Boosey Creek Cheese and Rich Glen Oils are also worth a visit.

We called in here because it had been recommended to us and I can see why. There is a lovely grass area with tables and chairs and lots of shade from the many trees. We had a look inside the winery and it is very roomy you could easily visit with a group for tasting and plenty of room around the L-shaped bar. They have a good variety of wines and their prices are quite reasonable. We were going to sit with a glass and of wine outside but it was not much dearer to buy a bottle. We chose the Sauvignon Blanc which we both enjoyed. We enquires about meals because they were serving pizzas and they normally cater for weddings and large gatherings but when the weather is good or special weekends they usually open the pizza ovens and the advertise on Facebook. They average about 200 for these days.

This was a terrific afternoon. $40 per head was great value for money. Champagne on arrival, food and hot drinks included in the package. Alcoholic drinks at bar prices. The food was excellent and so was the service. All set in the barrel room which made for a great cosy atmosphere

Our visit exceeded our expectations. The interior is tasteful, the wines excellent and the hosts very friendly and helpful. Planning not to buy anything, due to luggage restrictions, we ended buying four bottles of the liqueur red muscat. This was securely packed in polystyrene for our trip back to South Africa.

You need to try the Muscat Port. I thought I drank Port but the others taste like water compared to this. Generous enough to offer us a cheese platter to have with our purchased Port and wine.
