About
The rolling hills of Piemonte and the flat plains of Victoria's Goulburn Valley are worlds apart. However the classic tradition of wine making has transferred flawlessly from one hemisphere to the other. When Carlo Monichino migrated from the Asti region in Northern Italy he brought his winemaking skills with him and in 1962, together with his wife Margaret, planted a vineyard in Katunga. The rich soil and excellent climatic conditions make this region ideal for grape growing. In fact vines were first planted in the area in the 1880's, making it one of the oldest grape growing regions in Australia. Monichinos is a true family concern, with Carlo, his son Terry, and daughter Anna all involved. Terry, after studying wine science in Australia and working in the industry overseas, has taken over from Carlo as head winemaker, while Anna manages administration, including functions, and the cellar door. Visitors are welcome and the cellar door is open 7 days a week, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, and Saturday and Sunday 10am-5pm. Call in for a chat over a large range of award winning wines for tasting. Monichino's friendly staff will help you with your wine selection and provide you with information on food and wine matches. Take the time to Relax and enjoy a regional cheese platter with a glass of wine in the well laid out picnic grounds overlooking the vineyard. Cheese Platters, Muffins & Hot drinks available every day.

What a fantastic day. Taste testing some exquisite wines. Hearing about the history and the winemaking. The pizzas were fantastic, and paired with one of the wonderful wines, it was an absolutely delicious experience.
The Muscat was my favourite, but the Durif was also spectacular.
Whether for a Taste Testing, or a casual lunch, this venue is well worth the trip while in the area.

The quality of the wine exceeded our expectations! Ended up buying much more than we expected. Plus the Chelsea was very helpful and sweet. I highly recommend you take some time to visit Monichino!

They have some excellent and moderately priced wines. The staff were very helpful to our group. We sat on their lawn eating and drinking some wines.

We were passing through Katunga and decided to check out Monichino Wines. They have a modest range of wines and we tasted them all. Some of the whites were very good but I preferred the reds, particularly the shiraz and cab sav which offered good value for money. I also bought a bottle of their very nice moscato for a friend who particularly likes this. The grand old tawny was also very good. The gentleman who served us was very entertaining and told us about the wines and the history of the region. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience.

We had visited here last year and sat outside on a beautiful sunny day and enjoyed a glass of wine. The weather wasn't as good today and there weren't a lot of people here so we thought we would sit inside and have a glass. First though we had a tasting to see which wine we wanted to choose, my husband doesn't drink a lot of wine but he did like a blended white wine he tried and as it was cheaper to buy the bottle than a couple of glasses we did that and sat and had a glass each at one of the inside tables. The gentleman who helped us with our choices was very informative and very friendly. The wine we chose to have was on special so we walked out with a dozen bottles.

The tasting was very well done, the gentleman working the day we were there was very informative and knowledgeable. It no longer has food and coffee so make sure to take your own picnic.

Having visited Monichino Wines several times before for tasting and wine buying, we’d never sat out under the trees and enjoyed a glass.
Keeping an eye on the Facebook page, we were happy to heard of cheese platters available on the recent Labour Day weekend. And they didn’t dissapoint! Fresh grapes, yummy cheese, great wine!
We can’t wait until we’re in the area for the pizza nights!

Also, the people here are super friendly, always happy to have a chat about wine or the surrounding area.

Jackie took us on a wine tasting tour that I have never been on before. Her knowledge of wine surpasses a lot of wineries I have visited who think they know what they are talking about. Guys, get into those fortified wine, magnificent. Will I visit it again, yes sir, next week for sure.

We called in here because it had been recommended to us and I can see why. There is a lovely grass area with tables and chairs and lots of shade from the many trees. We had a look inside the winery and it is very roomy you could easily visit with a group for tasting and plenty of room around the L-shaped bar. They have a good variety of wines and their prices are quite reasonable. We were going to sit with a glass and of wine outside but it was not much dearer to buy a bottle. We chose the Sauvignon Blanc which we both enjoyed. We enquires about meals because they were serving pizzas and they normally cater for weddings and large gatherings but when the weather is good or special weekends they usually open the pizza ovens and the advertise on Facebook. They average about 200 for these days.

My wife and I went to Monichino’s after being a few times before. This place never disappoints with some great wines, a welcoming atmosphere (including kids) and an expert at the cellar door in Anna. Highly recommend you stop by at this hidden gem in the Goulburn Valley
