So glad to have had this experience. As a Melbournian I was surprised how beautiful the Yarra is when on the water and how pretty the city looked. The staff at Sea Kayak were friendly and professional and they covered safety and training very well.

The timing of the tour is perfect - get yo experience full sun then sunset then experience the lights of the city reflecting on the water as it gets dark. The pace was quite swift so you need to be reasonably fit but it was worth it to travel so far and see so much.

The only downside was the snacks - could have been better.

I really enjoyed the evening and would love to do it again!

I am glad you had a good time. It's a great way to see Melbourne. The pace of the tour really depends on the fitness of the group. Snacks are fruit, drinks and biscuits. please come again and bring friends.

Spent 3 hours with Rohan learning how to operate a kayak. From the beginning I thought his presentation was very professional and focussed on what I wanted to get from the experience. After a very informative discussion on weather, safety and comfort, we adjourned to the water. We went through various exercises of paddling and manoeuvring the kayak before travelling across the water. I have never been in a kayak before but at no time did I feel at risk on the water with Rohan giving me encouragement at all times. Overall I feel that I gained tremendous knowledge about kayaking (mind you I am still a rank amateur) and feel confident to pursue my knowledge further. I would heartily recommend Eastcoast Kayaks as a place to learn about this growing sport.

Had a great experience on the Yarra River on a Saturday night in January. Perfect weather for a kayak. Dane and his crew were very professional with communication, safety briefing prior to starting and looked out for us on the water to make sure we were safe. I can recommend this group.

My husband and I undertook a 3 hour kayak course as a couple with Rohan of East Coast Kayak using our tandem Hobie Oasis. Rohan’s knowledge of charts, tides and interpreting information you need from weather apps is excellent. We now have so much to learn and put into practice. We especially appreciated the way Rohan encouraged us to use our Mirage drives (pedals) BUT showed us when paddles come into their own, e.g. when executing a 360 in swell and choppy conditions. Rohan pushed us just outside our comfort zone, and then a bit more, but we knew we were in safe hands. Rohan has been key to developing our paddling technique, something we can continue to work on. Our respect for the sport grew enormously, especially when attempting to execute self rescue in deep water. We now have fitness goals to work on in water aerobics. We will be fitting an Hobie Sidekick AMA kit for added stability for our already very stable kayak. It’s all about knowing your limitations: skill up and take safety precautions. We bought a Personal Locator Beacon and Fox 40 whistle from East Coast Kayaking, and learned more about staying warm on the water. Can’t wait to get back out the water to use our new skills. We couldn’t recommend Rohan more highly to beginners and those wanting to upskill. A+++++

Did the Learn to Sea Kayak Course, lots of fun and can't wait to put all the things I learnt into practice on future trips. Danny, who ran the course, was very knowledgeable and engaging and gave lots of reassurance and attention to participants. Lots of time out on the water practicing new strokes, rescue techniques and kayaking in challenging conditions for a beginner but added to learning experience. Would recommend the course to others.

My friend suggested to hire some kayaks and go towards the city. 2 women and 2 teenagers really enjoyed this little trip. One of the teenagers was our visitor from Germany and amazed that this was something one can do.

As it wasn't a busy hire day, we were able to hire a single and double kayak for half a day without booking in advance. We received a dry bag and PFDs as part of our hire and were given help to launch and bring our kayaks back at the end of our hire period.

We were pleasantly surprised as to how peaceful kayaking along a river in the middle of a busy city could be. We kayaked at a leisurely pace for about 3 hours with stops for refreshment and lunch. The boats were fast with a rudder. We were given a map with landing places marked on it. We found it difficult to use most of the landing places as they were slippery and muddy and there were no beaching areas where we went.

Take note of where you launch so that you know where to get out. There is a small rapid that you will need to go up just before taking your kayak out of the water at the end of your paddle if the tide is out. There is also nowhere to get changed immediately before or after your paddle.

We had a great day out on the Yarra, paddling down to Bolte bridge and back through the city. It was great fun, and it was wonderful to see the city from this perspective. I have been along the bank of the river many times, but it is just so different from the water. Paddling was easy, and the kayaks are almost bullet-proof.
Nice Thai lunch too.

It had been a while since I had done anything resembling a good sporty physical activity, but I'm still relatively fit at 61. I like the sea, can swim and had always looked at kayaks / canoes and thought 'that looks fun', but had Never done it before.
So, I treated myself to a Christmas present of a 2 x beginner course with Sea Kayak Australia.
Although the first kayak I used was probably not ideal for me, they had a good range of different kayaks and I was able to try out different ones and realise how important it was when buying your own kayak to try them out first and see that they suit you.

The Instructors (Dave and Lochy) were great, knowledge in buckets and attentive to everyone to ensure they understood the practice drills and more importantly were safe and comfortable.

There was no 'hard sell' for anything, just good solid information to help you in the future, while learning the basics on the course. I was impressed with how much I learnt over the 2 days, the final paddle of the second day was great, I felt confident and was trying out some of the techniques they had shown us and really enjoying it.

The group attending were all from different parts of Victoria but with the help of the instructors were soon working as a team and it was a really nice weekend.

I couldn't have asked for anything better for my first introduction to Sea Kayaking, the skills and knowledge I've learnt are going to benefit me whether I go on the sea, river or lake.

Very worthwhile, at the end of the weekend, a little tired, a few sore muscles, but very happy!!

Great experience with knowledgeable teacher (Danny) and lots of opportunities to practice paddling skills, rescues and get an understanding of maps, tides, winds and trip planning.
Would recommend to anyone wanting to get out there and enjoy our beautiful coast, lakes and the bay.
