It had been a while since I had done anything resembling a good sporty physical activity, but I'm still relatively fit at 61. I like the sea, can swim and had always looked at kayaks / canoes and thought 'that looks fun', but had Never done it before.
So, I treated myself to a Christmas present of a 2 x beginner course with Sea Kayak Australia.
Although the first kayak I used was probably not ideal for me, they had a good range of different kayaks and I was able to try out different ones and realise how important it was when buying your own kayak to try them out first and see that they suit you.
The Instructors (Dave and Lochy) were great, knowledge in buckets and attentive to everyone to ensure they understood the practice drills and more importantly were safe and comfortable.
There was no 'hard sell' for anything, just good solid information to help you in the future, while learning the basics on the course. I was impressed with how much I learnt over the 2 days, the final paddle of the second day was great, I felt confident and was trying out some of the techniques they had shown us and really enjoying it.
The group attending were all from different parts of Victoria but with the help of the instructors were soon working as a team and it was a really nice weekend.
I couldn't have asked for anything better for my first introduction to Sea Kayaking, the skills and knowledge I've learnt are going to benefit me whether I go on the sea, river or lake.
Very worthwhile, at the end of the weekend, a little tired, a few sore muscles, but very happy!!
