Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited Melbourne from the UK to see family and they recommended we did the Twilight Kayak tour. We were a bit unsure as we are both in our late 60's, but decided to go for it ... and so glad we did. The paddling was very relaxed, the tour guides helpful and informative, and of course the views of Melbourne were amazing! Highly recommended, even for old folks!

Expert & helpful tour guides (Cam & Byron), plus decent weather & fabulous views along the Point Nepean coast. Lunch at the Quarantine was enjoyable & well catered for. Seeing the dolphins was a pleasant surprise !!

My husband and I undertook a 3 hour kayak course as a couple with Rohan of East Coast Kayak using our tandem Hobie Oasis. Rohan’s knowledge of charts, tides and interpreting information you need from weather apps is excellent. We now have so much to learn and put into practice. We especially appreciated the way Rohan encouraged us to use our Mirage drives (pedals) BUT showed us when paddles come into their own, e.g. when executing a 360 in swell and choppy conditions. Rohan pushed us just outside our comfort zone, and then a bit more, but we knew we were in safe hands. Rohan has been key to developing our paddling technique, something we can continue to work on. Our respect for the sport grew enormously, especially when attempting to execute self rescue in deep water. We now have fitness goals to work on in water aerobics. We will be fitting an Hobie Sidekick AMA kit for added stability for our already very stable kayak. It’s all about knowing your limitations: skill up and take safety precautions. We bought a Personal Locator Beacon and Fox 40 whistle from East Coast Kayaking, and learned more about staying warm on the water. Can’t wait to get back out the water to use our new skills. We couldn’t recommend Rohan more highly to beginners and those wanting to upskill. A+++++

Did the Learn to Sea Kayak Course, lots of fun and can't wait to put all the things I learnt into practice on future trips. Danny, who ran the course, was very knowledgeable and engaging and gave lots of reassurance and attention to participants. Lots of time out on the water practicing new strokes, rescue techniques and kayaking in challenging conditions for a beginner but added to learning experience. Would recommend the course to others.

Great experience with knowledgeable teacher (Danny) and lots of opportunities to practice paddling skills, rescues and get an understanding of maps, tides, winds and trip planning.
Would recommend to anyone wanting to get out there and enjoy our beautiful coast, lakes and the bay.

Spent 3 hours with Rohan learning how to operate a kayak. From the beginning I thought his presentation was very professional and focussed on what I wanted to get from the experience. After a very informative discussion on weather, safety and comfort, we adjourned to the water. We went through various exercises of paddling and manoeuvring the kayak before travelling across the water. I have never been in a kayak before but at no time did I feel at risk on the water with Rohan giving me encouragement at all times. Overall I feel that I gained tremendous knowledge about kayaking (mind you I am still a rank amateur) and feel confident to pursue my knowledge further. I would heartily recommend Eastcoast Kayaks as a place to learn about this growing sport.

Our instructor and guide, PJ, was terrific and we enjoyed learning about the early dock area and settlement of Melbourne. Stopping to see the giant Crown Casino fire balls from the water was great fun. Good safety gear is provided and even though it was tricky at first, a beginner can manage this activity. It wasn't overly physical - I wasn't puffing or tired - and the city lights as it turned to evening were a highlight. I'd recommend it as a fun family experience and a different way to see Melbourne.

We booked the Yarra River Kayak Hire (Double Kayak / 2 People) for $95.

The meeting location is in Hawthorn, where you are taken to the Yarra River and prepped for the paddling. It takes approximately 3 hours, so prepare yourself.

Make sure you wear clothes you are okay with them getting wet. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and a water bottle. The hire includes one small dry bag for your stuff.

It's an enjoyable experience, and you will get to paddle upstream and downstream. There will be moments where you will just listen to the wind & birds. So surreal!
