Recognized as one of the finest remaining country estates of the early 20th century, Filoli welcomes the public to this remarkable 654-acre property. Designed between 1915 and 1917 and set against the dramatic backdrop of the northern Santa Cruz mountains in Woodside, California, Filoli is an excellent example of the Golden Age of American garden design and country house architecture. Opened to the public in 1976 as a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Filoli features a 36,000 sq. Ft. Home and a 16-acre English Renaissance Garden. In addition, Filoli's property includes a 6.8 Acre Gentlemen's Heritage Orchard and a trail system that transverses five different ecosystems for docent-guided nature hikes. Filoli is dedicated to the preservation, interpretation and stewardship of the cultural traditions and natural history of this country estate for public education and enjoyment.

Had a wonderful time here. This is a must for all. The special events are spectacular, however, we just went this time to spend the day in beauty. Don't miss a simple and easy day to enjoy the glory of color and gardens.

I didn't know this estate existed until my friends took me. There is an interesting old house rich with history and acres of beautiful gardens. The house is grandiose, complete with a Versailles-esque ballroom. I was disappointed that they only let you see the main...More

We were delighted to find this hidden gem right outside of San Mateo, CA. We visited in early July when the roses were blooming and other flowers flourishing. The grounds are easily walked and there are benches scattered along the walkway for a short rest...More

Great historic house that you can break off from and hike your way above Crystal Springs. Go on a weekday to avoid the crowds of mountain bikers and hikers. Takes me back of what this valley would be like 200 years ago.

The house is great touring but the gardens are not to be missed. You could wander around them for hours.

$20 adults, $10 students (ID needed for older kids/teenagers) Very beautiful and well maintained garden, with lots of flowers, a nice pond, shady tree-covered areas, and indoors shop. Great for a 2h stroll around, perfect to shoot some photos (although for professional shootings you might...More

I've visited previously in the Autumn so this was my first summer visit. It was looking very newly planted with the season's bedding being planted - Zinnias and Begonia's in evidence with the last of the spring pansies still in many of the pot groups....More

If you are up for an adventure, give your GPS some leeway (perhaps even mapping to 68 Canada Road, instead of 86 Canada Road) and rely on the green road signs with "Filoli" directions within 2 miles of the entrance - this place is special...More

I don't know if you can get into the cafe without paying the admission fee. You certainly need to pay to enter the Gardens.
