Check out the movie they show at the visitor center about the devastating flood the area dealt with in 1964, then check out the height of the pole and it really hits home.

The pole shows how high the water got in the flood of 1964. It's fascinating to realize how much of the area was underwater.

The 1964 flood was an environmental catastrophe brought on by a rare weather combination, as well as the irresponsible clearcutting of surrounding watersheds, where rainfall just ran down to the creeks, streams and then river.
