Great place to walk!

Beautiful tails and view of San Pablo Bay. Great for the family, could be windy so be prepared. Bring a snack/water and enjoy a nice hike.

Many things happening on Mare Island it's awesome to have this available 10 minutes from home. Lots of walking trails, interesting sights, fun art studios, and even a winery! Wonderful place to hang out by the water. Great views.

This is a terrific getaway for ferry riders with bikes or to drive out with bikes and tour the island. The island has not really been discovered yet and traffic is a minimum. The old Victorians, huge dry-docks, and historic cemetery are just a few on the interests.

This is a history buff's delight. IT was once the largest CONUS submarine base/facility in the US Navy. Viewing the dry docks, repair facilities, and seeing just how our Naval personnel worked and resided was FANTASTIC. View many of the old buildings was great also particularly the old power plant, the structure warranted about 50 pictures by itself. The base... More

My husband's brother married his wife at Captain's Quarters B. The place was absolutely stunningly beatiful and so well maintained.

There are several roads with light traffic for easy bike rides. Lots of parking and interesting old buildings to see. There are several places for a picnic.

the place could be more interesting , it is mostly old Navy decaying buildings, not much water access, kind of a pretty little golf course and driving range

The very south end of Mare Island is know as the Preserve. It's run by all volunteers. The preserve was the Ammo Depot and contains old brick buildings dated 1854. The area has officers houses that can be seen with special arrangements by the Navy. There are also bomb storage bunkers and underground small arms lockers. At the far south... More

My parents met working at Mare island in the 40's. The building where they met isn't there, but the museum on the island is wonderful storehouse of the way it was. It's a step back in time...

It is on an old navy base and it has that kind of thrill of discovering strange things. There are ammunition bunkers hidden in the hillsides and abandoned storage buildings, all mixed up with ravines wooded with live oaks and fabulous hilltop views of the bay and Vallejo. It's only open from Friday to Sunday but it is well worth... More
