Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Small village nestled in the paddies green rice fields. Peaceful, calm, it stay far away from the modern animated life. The village is a real stop for rest a while between Hanoi and Mai Chau valley, it is ok to take a day trip here for just relaxing, admire the countryside sights. Beside that, a chance to taste the local special food!

Giang Mo is a small village near Mai Chau Town, in Hoa Binh Province, about 140 km west of Hanoi.
It is home to "White Tai", one of Vietnam's numerous ethic minorities who settled here about 400 years ago. As we bicycled through the village many people smiled in typical Thai style and said "Sawasdeekrab", for they still speak Thai as their first language.
Imagine their surprise when I replied, "Sawasdeekrap, sabai mai, krab?" (Hello, how are you?" They were not expecting a westerner who could speak their language.
They live in traditional teak wood houses on stilts, the stilts providing coolness during the hot season and a refuge under the house for the ducks, hens, dogs and other animals that abound here.
They farm the fertile soil of the valley floor, producing up to three crops a year of rice and/or vegetables.
It is rural Vietnam at its very best.

On our tour of Hanoi we were lucky enough to enjoy visiting the Giang Mo Village in Hoa Binh. A small village of traditional stilt houses nestled amongst the rice paddies and very picturesque rolling hills of the highlands, what an experience.

We visited this village as part of a day trip that also included the nearby Black River Reservoir. We were staying at the La Ferme du Colvert Resort and Spa outside of Hanoi and were doing day trips from there. We used the Resort travel agency, Vietnam Adventures, to book this trip along with several other trips. We had a great driver (Chung) and guide (Thao), who both made the trip very interesting and a lot of fun.
The village has about 100 stilt houses and is a very bucolic setting nestled among the hills. We went to one home where we would later have lunch and had tea and learned about the village and local life and customs. Much of life and work is very "basic" and rustic. After meeting the very friendly owner, we walked around the village and through the rice fields, learning about growing and harvesting rice. We returned later to the same house for what turned out to be one of the best meals we had in our 3 weeks in North Vietnam (and we had LOTS of fabulous meals!). The owner was extremely friendly and welcoming in addition to being a great (and very modest) cook. She also offers the option for "homestays," although we only partook of the obligatory post-lunch nap (with floor cushions!)
The trip was laid back and relaxing while simultaneously being very interesting, with delicious food. In addition to purchasing some handicrafts where we had lunch, we also purchased some amazingly fine embroidery from an elderly woman from the village. Of all of the crafts we saw being sold through North Vietnam, the ones in this village were certainly some of the highest quality and were very reasonable prices.
A wonderful introduction to Moung life and the Moung people.
