For the modern family that prefers substance with a unique, laid-back style, Northstar California Resort combines California cool with high-end luxury, on-mountain exhilaration with a sophisticated alpine village atmosphere. Halfway between one of North America's coolest mountain towns and one of the world's most beautiful alpine lakes, Northstar is a destination on the rise, having poured nearly a billion dollars into creating Lake Tahoe's premier luxury snowsports experience. Upscale shops, refined dining and Lake Tahoe's only five-star slopeside lodging is married to impeccable grooming, incredible tree skiing and enough variety to challenge every level of skier (and world-class terrain parks to keep the kids busy). Those who come to Northstar know what they're looking for. Sometimes it's adventure, sometimes it's to learn, sometimes it's to relax in a welcoming place with family and friends. No matter what that experience is, they'll find it to be exactly the way it should be.

Looks like it would be a really nice spot in the winter. Just stayed here overnight and not overly impressed with the room. Internet was very slow.

We stayed at the northstar condos and it was pretty nice there wasn't any snow at the time but if there were you would be right there next to the slopes...

It was hot, dark, dreary, old, very steep steps....terrible! There was no way to circulate the air so sleep was not happening. Broken ironing board and had 6 outfits for wedding and rehearsal to iron on kitchen table! They brought us a tiny "dorm" board!...More

We went for the day to go on hikes. Very nice gondola/open seating to take us up higher to the different trails. Very nice area! Definitely very scenic views from the top.

Beautiful time of year to visit. Best of both worlds, there was still snow in some areas but beautiful weather, for a cruise on Lake Tahoe.

On our way back from the Donner site, we had planned and were very much looking forward to a ski lift ride up the volcano Mr. Pluto. When we got there the whole large complex was deserted. We saw literally, no one. Barricades were here...More

Since I don't ski, I had never been to Northstar despite it's relative proximity to my home. Having just spent a weekend there in August, I can attest that there is much to do and explore all year round. The Village has shops and places...More

We have been pass holders for years at Northstar - as it is pretty close to our house. Getting to the resort from 80 is huge pain and frustrating past 7:00 AM. Parking is a nightmare here. Once parked then have to take a bus...More

Northstar is very pretty and well maintained. Unfortunately the Village is dead and I don't understand why. They need a weekly music and food event. We went to them at Squaw Valley, Truckee and other spots. Northstar is in much much better condition than Squaw...More

They opened thanksgiving and the snow was good. Then they got 15 inches that weekend so it's looking good. Go to Northstar website and they give snow reports.

Depends on your budget. Staying at the village will be pricey but you won't have to drive far or not at all. Kings Beach has regular lodging (motel/hotel), and not too far to drive - Truckee is closer, but less lodging... More
