When traveling through the Death Valley area consider visiting beautiful China Ranch, near Tecopa California. China Ranch is a family owned and operated small farm, a lush piece of greenery amidst the forbidding Mojave Desert near Southern Death Valley. Imagine towering cottonwoods and willows by a wandering stream, date palms and abundant wildlife, all hidden away in some of the most spectacular scenery the desert has to offer. The Ranch is also rich in history. The Old Spanish Trail is within walking distance, as is the historic Tonopah & Tidewater railroad bed. Hike to nearby abandoned mines if you wish, or just relax and browse through our store. We offer several varieties of California dates as well as our own hybrids. Try some delicious date nut bread, muffins or cookies, or take home one of our unique hand-crafted gifts. If you are interested in learning more about the wildlife, plants or history of the area, try one of our interpretive guided nature walks. Learn about the geology, botany, birds, and early man in the area. The Old Spanish Trail comes alive again and much more. Visiting China Ranch can be a wonderful one day adventure or highlight of any trip to Death Valley. We are not a resort or tourist development, but rather a working family farm in a truly unusual setting.

This is a wonderful spot to visit. I agree with everything wonderful that has been said. I wanted to take a hike to the waterfall. I asked about the trail and the two employees weren't very informative and there weren't any brochures that I could see that had trail information. I did get to the trail which was wide and,... I think some hikers have thought they died and went to heaven when they entered the ranch gift shop after stomping through the desert. It's cool, there are cold drinks, and the aroma of fresh baked date bread and assorted pastries is overwhelming. The trails are rough. This isn't a park and I didn't see any sign of anybody acting... Love this place! First found it in 2005 and after 10 days of backcountry camping we were ready for a date shake! So glad it is still going strong! And the dates and baked goods are awesome too! If we lived in the area, this is the kind of unique place we would bring family and friends to experience when... More

This is way out in the desert & the signage doesn't do it justice. You go down a very long winding track through the huge rocks on either side & eventually arrive at the China Ranch Date Farm. A tiny museum, a shop full of dusty rustic things & the best date flavour ice cream imaginable make this an interesting... More

This is a bit out of the way - the road to get down tot he ranch is narrow and curvy - but it was worth the effort to get there. You must have a date milk shake when you are there. It is a very pretty oasis in an otherwise stark environment. I would have liked to explore more... More

Be sure to take a walk through the date orchard and explore the little creek. The date farm is an amazing enterprise that is also a project that preserves a special environment. I'm not a big fan of dates, but this place is an amazing spot, an oasis that was preserved from inappropriate development by a very forward thinking family.... More

So glad we went the extra miles to seek out this funky venue down a canyon. The road is paved a good but of the way but then hard packed. Informative history signs are helpful en route to this working farm. The gift shop on food stand offer date tastings of more than half dozen varieties. It's so nice to... More

Finally made it out to the China Ranch Date Farm. It was a perfect day-trip destination on a sunny but chilly Las Vegas day (the ranch was about ten degrees warmer than Las Vegas), and a great place to give the AWD on our Subaru a workout (the last mile or two of the road into the ranch is unpaved,... Had been here several times, but always a delight to take new folks there and watch their eyes and wonderment at the drive in. Very cordial staff at the farm. Be sure you take home some dates and date bread. always fresh!

Fun place to stop.as you head down this narrow desert canyon you have doubts, then it opens up to an amazing oasis scene. Once there you can explore walking amongst the date palm trees from all over the world. Have a famous date milkshake in the store you can also purchase Dates, date bread and curio's. Lots of nature hiking trails... More
