Great train museum

Great place to bring the kids, including adults who love trains. Actually able to ride the rails on an antique train.

My wife and I took our mother to the museum for their wildflower ride. The train goes out the tracks towards the bay for about 30 minutes, then reverses course and returns to the museum. There were not many wildflowers, but that did not diminish the nostalgic trip back in history provided by the train and the eager volunteers. I... More

Although in seems to be "in the middle of nowhere", a visit to the Western Railway Museum is a must, especially for any railway fans in the area. They have a mix of railway and tram (streetcar) exhibits, some restored, some being restored. The museum is run by volunteers, and there is the opportunity to take a ride on their... More

We visited this museum the day after their "members day" and it was very quiet and peaceful. Our ride on the 1913 electric train was delightful since we were the only passengers. Our conductor and lineman gave us personal attention and lots of historical information. This is a "must see" for kids and railroad enthusiasts.

There are many old trains and street cars under-roof outside the museum building -- very historical experience. Inside the museum there are exhibits of transportation and energy. Children can enjoy 2 or 3 tables of wooden train sets and move the cars around. Outside ...Take a train ride on the line that served Sacramento to Oakland up to the 1950's.

All the people involved in this museum were so friendly and very informative. A great way to spend a few hours. The ride on the railcar is not too long, so the kids wont get bored. The scenery is nice. Wasn't crowded. The museum is interesting too. Lots of restored railcars, some you can walk thru. We had two 10... More

If you like trains, and in particular electric trains, you and your family will love this museum. The gift shop is super fun for kids with two Thomas the Train set-ups that the kids can play with for hours. The train ride is very cool, with lots to see and enjoy. The docents are knowledgable and interactive. And the rebuilt... More

We lucked out and hit this wonderful museum on a day when they ran a multitude of trains in order for enthusiasts to photograph. They were also having a train garage sale! Good gift shop, good displays and EXCELLENT train rides. Their restoration shops have SO many trains!

The Western Railway Museum has a lot about it to like. They have a two great sheds full of vintage rail cars and lots of electric locomotives. They have an excellent visitor center and gift shop. And they have train rides! We took advantage of the train ride and had a nice time. Along the tracks there were a lot... More

This spot is fun for all; well priced and the museum is a highlight we'd not expected. The ride was fun but would advise children being 6 and over.
