Gold Coast residents have been fighting to save community-owned BSL, a peaceful 2.75 hectare sheltered, remnant of wetlands for the past 6 years after Council voted to fill it in for an overflow carpark for the Turf Club and further development. Through broader community resolve, one acre has been saved by a majority vote at the Council meeting 1/9/20. It is hoped fences will now be removed and everyone can once again enjoy the prolific wildlife, turtles and 70 documented bird species at this rescued water body and bushland habitat. Despite malignment and now smaller with 80% infill completed, mother nature continues to bless us with a beautiful wildlife sanctuary and we are sincerely grateful.

Swamp, Not lake!
Oct. 2019
This "lake" is a health hazard and the only reason people are fighting for it is to allow their horses a place to swim! Its got a lot of Ibis and faecal matter in the lake, its a stagnant waterhole. The sooner its a carpark the more people will use it!!!

Nothing to see here
Jun. 2018 • Family
The place has no real access to it, as a man made lake it is smelly and full of floating debris from the adjacent horse stables. There are no parking facilities, no bus services, no walking paths , no picnic area and limited wild life. The wild life that is there can also be viewed in a better park 1 klm away. Better off just going to the races.

"Black Swan Lake" at 6 Gold Market Drive at Bundall near the Hong Kong owned Turf Club, is a beautiful oasis for the family and visitors where a myriad birdlife abounds and where all can enjoy this peaceful soul-refreshing aquatic paradise. Important wild bird nesting area and playground for baby birds and their doting parents. Muddied by truckloads of "fill" during a recently thwarted attempt to turn it into a carpark, with trucks temporarily halted by a concerned community. Lovely place to enjoy some peaceful contemplation, admire birds at play and inhale the natural beauty.

A little slice of heaven in suburbia.

Black Swan Lake is a pretty little piece of water which is home to swans magpie geese, turtles and a variety of other bird and aquatic life. Gold Coast Council is looking at filling it in to make a car park. Locals are trying to save it. Go and see this lake before it is too late. It is just peaceful to sit and watch the birds on and around the lake.

Just like it’s namesake the Black Swan, this lake and surrounds is a beautiful, peaceful and healthy ecosystem right in the middle of Gold Coast city.

The review of 16/2 is incorrect. Work has been halted on filling the lake. Only a small part of the lake has been damaged, the rest is home to swans, cormorants, egrets, spoonbills, ducks, swamp hens and many more species.

There are many lovely trees and plants. A great spot for photos.

This beautiful lake is no more.

Unfortunately, Mayor Tom Tate and the Gold Coast City Council have given the Black Swan Lake area to the Gold Coast Turf Club (for free) so they can build a car park.
They are currently filling in the lake - unfortunately, they haven't relocated the wildlife so as it's being filled in there is wildlife being killed, injured and traumatised :-(
So if you haven't been to the lake already sadly you are too lake to visit and see the beautiful wildlife :-(

Amazing spot

Full of birdlife and activity, what a treasure this unique place is in the heart of Bundall. Out city needs to save places like this not destroy them, if we are truly to be a global city in the decades to come. Tate, Gates and their cronies like backflipping Baildon are as devious as they are bent over the huge conflicts here. I love this wildlife hub in the city, it's a real diamond worth keeping for our kids and theirs to come.
