I have been on a trail ride at the Wild Horse Sanctuary every year for nearly 2 decades. The people here make all the difference. Diane and Ted are the stewards of the magical place and and it is their love for the land and the horses that mold the experience. The riding horses are strong and well trained which... More

My daughter and I enjoyed one of the weekend horse back rides from the main ranch house to the camp and return to see the wild horses. The volunteer guides were great! They were generous sharing knowledge of wild horses and local terrain, and prepared an excellent cowboy dinner and hearty breakfast for us. There are a few cabins at... More

Had this place to myself on the Wednesday that I went. An Australian girl showed me around for awhile and took me into the pen with the wild horses so I could take some pictures and then she left me outside of the fences so I could take some pictures on my own while she went back to work.

We just returned from a wonderful weekend ride. We celebrated my daughters 12th birthday. A terrific adventure for a horse loving young lady. We will treasure the memories always!!!! Thank you for a great time on the range :-)

Dedicated people doing marvelous work to rescue wild horses who otherwise would be "culled" by the Bureau of Land Management. They are only open for drop-in visitors on weekend hours, so check ahead or make an appointment. We had a tour with an amazing viewing opportunity of the horses. You can also arrange for riding trips into this vast sanctuary... More

This was a highlight of our time near Mt. Lassen. If you're in the area and have any interest in animals, the Wild Horse Sanctuary is well worth a visit. We had a chance to see up close several groups of wild horses that had come down from the hills for afternoon feedings. The owner and one of her interns... More

What a great place that does such great work. 300 rescued horses, many from BLM land that might otherwise be killed if not given this home. If you love horses, you'll want to stop at this unique place to see the great work that they do. Often times the horses can be observed as they are feeding and it is... More

We showed up even though it wasn't within their "open window" but were escorted around nonetheless by a very knowledgeable apprentice. Great to see the horses and what they are doing there to save and support a dying breed. Visit if you can and contribute to this wonderful cause!

I had read about this place a few years ago in the NY Times travel section and made it a goal to experience this. It was definitely worth it and exceeded all my expectations. The wild horses were amazing, beautiful and in their natural element. We were able to ride 6+ hours per day, which is really a bargain when... More

This is a beautiful place to visit. The horses are roaming free and happy and it is like going to a park for the day and viewing wild horses while you picnic. The trail rides are exciting and adventurous but also scenic and you really get up close to the horses in the wild. The burros are adorable as well...can't... More
