Interesting look at early California history and the transportation used. We totally loved the display called Mourning Glory... dresses of women who were in mourning late 1800 - 1920's. "The ritual of mourning clothes had sever stages of dress that a widow went through". They also had jewelry, and hair art on display. This small museum is well worth an... More

This looks small but is actually quite spacious. Rooms have a wide range of artifacts from local history. The carriage museum has a fantastic selection of horse carriages and coaches. I go a couple times a year and always discover something new.

This little museum was great to check out for an hour in the middle of the day. There are some great stuffed animals of the region (mountain lion, eagle and lots more!) Plus you're close to really see how big they are, with those huge nails. There's a case with a local rancher's collection of many rattles (from snakes I... More

Even though we have been to Solvang-Santa Ynez several times, we had missed this attraction in the quaint old town area of Santa Ynez north of CA 246. Many unique Western artifacts, several buildings, including stage coaches, wagons, and the original jail around the original town square. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. $5 admission fee. Street parking available.

Very nice exhibits. Lots of horse stuff - saddles etc. The carriage museum is outstanding - all types of carriages - from small to large - many restored to close to original condition. Small model railroad showing the narrow gauge that ran to Santa Ynez and through the local area. Nice dress exhi

My husband and I actually live in the area of the museum, but had never been. Upon arrival we were captivated by the gorgeous, native plant and wildflower garden in front. Having not called ahead of time, we discovered that the museum is only open Wed. through Sun., but they let us anyway, along with a lovely lady that we... More

Current special exhibit is Samurai armor, which I found fascinating. Would have been better with more explanation of what was being exhibited - how things are made, used, preserved, restored. The carriage house has (as the name suggests) - horse-drawn carriages. The one motorized vehicle is a school bus from the early 1900s. There are stagecoaches, mail and delivery wagons,... More

This gem of a museum is one of a kind, with a walk through history beginning in the pre-Columbian era when over 10,000 Chumash Indians lived in the region. One can literally walk through the history of the Santa Ynez Valley by walking thorugh many exhibit spaces. The adobe style courtyard and exhibit areas are inviting and host to many... More

This is a cute little museum in the middle of the town of Santa Ynez, with a slice of history from the area's early days. Lots of old horse drawn carriages and a small museum bringing a slice of history to tourists and locals.

This is the perfect antidote to all that sugar and fake Europe in Solvang. The town is a little gem with its board and batten false fronts. The museum is a delight with a saddle and tack collection, indian baskets, and the amazing carriage collection. You can easily spend an hour taking in the details and history of the carriages....
