It is probably my fault for not paying attention to the reviews. Despite being listed under Trip Adviser as a factory tour, there was no tour of any sort available. They had two cheeses to taste - a 3 year old and a 9 year...More

We felt very uncomfortable here, and decided to turn around and not visit. The location needs some tlc, and a little cleaning. Very rustic. My wife said we were not getting out of the car. It made her nervious.

This was an interesting place to visit in that it is a full working dairy farm. One doesn't get a tour of either the dairy or more importantly the cheese making process, but the tiny little office has samples of their one cheese "St. Jorge"...More

I've been to Matos Cheese Factory several times and it is the BEST Cheese I've ever had. So creamy and unique and perfect. When we are anywhere near that part of California we make it a point to include it in our travel plans. We...More

The other TA reviews accurately describe the 'cheese factory': working farm, dirt road, cows about (and cow doings!), tractors, and the cheese shop around the back by the barn. The St Jorge cheese is worth the trip, original or aged. Combine with a winery visit...More

They make two versions of the same cheese. One is aged 3 months and one is aged 8 months. They cost $9 and $13 per pound respectively. This is a great buy for some very tasty cheese. I would definitely recommend stopping buy and buying...More

Want to step back in time? Make your way down the gravel road to the Joe Matos Cheese Factory. As you turn off the paved road in the middle of real farm country, you drive past grape vines, cows, chickens and various barns and out...More

I am very familiar with the "Sao Jorge" cheese, having milked a few cows there myself. Although I was skeptical it was a great surprise.. it is excellent! Just placed a second order. John S.
