This long stretch of beach offers a lot. There is a path for bikes, runners and strollers. Bored of laying in the sun? Not a problem. There is a spot for beach volleyball and a playground for the kids. You can also go to the...More

Nice fairly clean sand with few shells and stones. You can walk into the ocean pretty far and it is only waist deep or a little more and the weather is great almost every day, except for Jan, Feb.

The size of Santa Monica beach is off the scale. It must be about 800m deep but all the action is at the sea front! We visited on a weekend when half of LA arrived so it was busy enough, very hot but able to...More

Nice to see lots of families having fun at the beach. Enjoyed the laughter of the children, especially when the waves came close to where they were.

That soft sand is no joke to walk, it can get pretty hot at times so carry sandals. Once you get to the ocean it is worth it. Make sure to carry sunblock and cool drinks.

The beach itself is really nice with light sands and typically nice weather. It can get very busy especially during the summer but there is a nice view of the pier on one side and endless beach to the other.

We were lucky enough to to stay at Shuttters. The bike rides are well worth it for the ability to cover more ground and "people watch"

Drive along Santa Monica's beach and you will find ample parking. Pay by the hour with a CC. Next to each lot are free restrooms large enough to change in with free outdoor showers to clean the sand off after swimming. This time of year,...More

Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a
balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a
thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers,
roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the
famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles
weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa
Monica pier spins high above the water, while park
revelers scream with delight riding the roller

I didn't see any free parking, but I didn't think it was bad to pay $5-$10 to park in a parking lot that's right on the beach. I saw at least 4 along the strip of water between the Venice Beach pier and the Santa Monica pier.
