This is a famous local surfer break. Unfortunately, it's also a homeless mecca. Very diverse population. We visited after touring UC Santa Cruz. I would not stay very long at this spot. Great to surf and head out.

The sand is very nice, the water freezing and the waves good. The beach is very wide and there is lots of room so you'e not on top of each other. Definitely worth visiting.

This beach is nice with the boardwalk nearby. The powerful waves were awesome to watch. I'm sure if we'd been on a busier day there would have been good surfing to watch.

Large expanse of beach, full length of the Boardwalk, additional areas for volleyball, nets are set up. Restaurant at the street/pier intersection sets up a salsa dance floor (wood) in late afternoon. I don't know if the lifeguards are there year round. Sometimes a man will be making large sand castle shapes and accepts donations. Easy access to the Boardwalk... More

Very clean. Can be rather crowded on holiday on holiday weekends. There is a very large inexpensive pay parking lot almost across the street from the beach.

Visited this beach on the day Santa Cruz City was celebrating its 150th anniversary i.e.on 1 October 2016. Could enjoy the firework at night. The beach is best suited for families. One can walk around 1 km on the beach. There is a jetty in the center. There are many shops and food kiosks on the boardwalk (just in front... More

Santa Cruz beach is lovely situated with the Wharf in its centre. The beach is lovely and sandy and patrolled although I was quite surprised how far out the swimming area was marked by buoys. To the right hand side of the Wharf is an area where the tide (and waves) are more prominent and this is where surfing lessons... More

Santa Cruz is still one of the great places to see in California. The beach can get crowded, so it helps to arrive early!
