Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I guess Im not sure what the attraction is. We were looking to walk around Santa Barbara and maybe go to some shops but we found literally nothing of interest. The stores are predominantly high end expensive things. There is definitely a lot of wine tasting rooms and breweries. On a different day we would have gone to a brewery or two but Im not sure what was so special about this area that it gets it's own special name. It didnt really live up to the hype. It wasn't bad it just wasn't much of anything.

If you enjoy sampling wine, you need to stroll through the funk zone. The are stores and restaurants but also lots of wineries. We spent an afternoon walking through the funk zone and doing tastings. We likes many of the wines (and had some shipped home), didn’t like some, and learned a lot.

The first thing I said when we arrived at the Funk Zone is how much fun it would be to take my wine group here. We are eight women who travel to wine country. But I don’t think this zone is suitable for people with kids and teens. My husband and I were tempted to enter the breweries and wineries but it can’t be done with kids. I thought my review might be helpful for those interested in exploring with children in tow. Otherwise, a great place to try locally made adult beverages!

A lot of fine wineries have their tasting rooms in this Funk Zone now. I've stopped into several and they're about the same. Packed with drunks and kids. The servers are college kids with no interest or knowledge in wine, Santa Barbara or anything else except goofing off. The Lark restaurant is good but packed. Forget about Fig Brewery, go to the one in Buellton or something.

My girlfriend and I stopped by here on our way home from Nor Cal and we decided to check out the “funk zone” because of it’s reputation. This area sums up Santa Barbra pretty well. A bunch of over priced yuppie garbage that’s more “beach” version of West Hollywood. However I never ran into any bars, just a bunch of places that want to sell you wine. There was also a brewery. I guess this spot would be cool if you’re over 35 and you like phony laughter.

The Funk Zone is a small geographic area of Santa Barbara between Yanonalli St. and the train tracks. There are art studios & small galleries open by appointment, or usually open on Saturday afternoons. There is an eclectic vibe, not very organized
Very non commercial. It is interesting to visit studios of working artists, most of whom are quite good.

Most of what to do in the Funk Zone is eat and drink. There must be at least a dozen wine tasting rooms/Wine Bars and there seemed to be almost as many restaurants and food trucks. There is a distillery there that has a tasting room and several locations which sell bottles of wine as well. The architecture is a clever redo of repurposed and purpose built industrial spaces.

The Santa Barbara Museum of Contemporary art has a satellite location and there are several small galleries, including a foundry which also sells work by local artists.

Mostly there are wine bars. I was particularly impressed by AVA Santa Barbara which seemed to be a growers collective and sold wine bottles which they also refilled,

The complex which houses The Lark and The Lucky Penny seems to be the coolest place to eat, with lots of spaces to explore. Be certain to look up at the entryways on Yanonali street, the murals that cover the storefronts when closed also fold open to create awnings over the doors during business hours

Lots of the bars and wineries seem to host regular live music, and The Guitar Bar has an amazing selection of Guitars (but no alcohol)

What a fun day! This area was recommended to us from a bartender at the fork and finch. We stopped at several galleries, breweries and wineries. The vibe is cool and relaxed and everything is within walking distance. The only bummer is a lot of the places for food aren't open until 4 or 5. There are some really cool shops, especially in the warehouse that houses the Nook. It is worth going off the beaten path to check it out!
