We spent a sunny afternoon taking advantage of this self guided walking tour. The Visitor Center provided a map with great descriptions of each highlight and the best part was that you can spend as much or as little time at each one that you choose. It takes you through all the historic buildings along the beautiful State street and Santa Barbara street, beginning in the county courthouse. This serves as a good guide while you are walking along State Street.... More

After seeing the Mission, Courthouse, and taking a trolley tour, we were ready to walk the Red Tile Tour of Santa Barbara's oldest and historic buildings. It was such a peaceful and informative tour. (we got a map with descriptions on-line) It was nice to be off the beaten track for several of the stops, too. Everything was well marked... More

Pick up your free map from the Santa Barbara Visitor’s Center (located on 1 Garden St.—near Stern’s Wharf). The free online versions I found showed less detail. The historic tour points you to the more interesting downtown historic landmarks. I quickly folded up the map and simply enjoyed looking left, right, up and down at the beautiful Santa Barbara architecture... More
