There was a mass on when we arrived, so we sat in the back and listened to a wonderful series of songs accompanied by the piano. What a treat! Found a great necklace in the museum shop, fair trade from Ecuador and a bargain surprise on Valentine's Day. Happy we spent an hour there. Small parking lot is free, street... More

Sadly, we missed hearing the bells, but we weren't disappointed by the solitude of this lovely church. The gardens were nice to amble through

Now guys just saying really quick they actually still have church service in there so normally if you are just tourist there will be a little door that leads to the museum. Everything is very pretty and beautiful but it is just a bit small. It's a good museum if your just going up highway 1 and want something to... More

Lovely mission, functioning authentic old church, but be there at noon. The tuned bells, heard from the plaza in front of the church are a gorgeous, almost overpowering aural experience. I think a real person really pulls the ropes.

Mission San Luis Obispo (Saint Luis the Bishop) is well worth a visit. Old, restored as it was long ago, this is a classic California mission. The gardens in the back are also very nice. The church is usually open for visits.

Easy to find with lots of parking on the nearby streets. A cool little slice of history. Too bad the gardens and outer buildings didn't survive, but the museum is interesting.

Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa has more historical information than most that I've visited. $5 donation requested but not mandatory. Overlooks San Luis Creek within walking distance to many restaurants and shops.

Not only is this a lovely working mission with a regular Mass schedule, it also is open for viewing and has a museum and gift shop. Very beautiful historic building and interesting museum displays of artifacts throughout the eras of discovery, colonization and community development. We missed it the day we arrived so went the next morning - definitely worth... More

We found metered parking nearby and enjoyed seeing the Mission Museum with artifacts from the original mission. The church was lovely and bright and we were lucky enough to see a choir group practicing for an upcoming performance. The music was uplifting and wonderful.
