Docent lead tour, suggested $5 donation, one hour. How, where, why to plant certain trees, plants, compost, raise chickens, use solar panels, growing plants on roof of "outdoor" room, hydroponics in geode shaped hot house, natural methods to save and reuse rain and gray water. Give school tours. Interactive with those on the tour. How to have a green yard... More

My husband and I signed up for one of the Saturday morning tours--in March the focus was water. We saw the drought-tolerant garden, edible garden, huge water barrel and gray water reuse. There wasn't time to learn about the green roof, solar panels, aquaponic garden (with fish and vegetables) plus chickens! All of this in an 1878 farmhouse, the oldest... More

Based on previous reviews, we took our teenage grandsons to visit after a trip to the Mission. We thought this would be an opportunity for them to do some hands-on activities. When we arrived, there was no one around. We went in a very charming old farm house. From there, we walked around the property but were unsure of where... More

I brought 4 teenagers here and they loved it! They were eating fruit off the trees, cycling the water pump bicycle and having a great time.

This is a great place to visit for all ages. An historic farmhouse on the edge of an actual working farm. Plus they offer both indoor and outdoor exhibits that give hands on opportunities to learn about sustainability and the environment. Fun classes for all ages as well such as beer and bread making, composting and international stewardship efforts.

This is beautiful and creative place tucked next to South Coast Farms. It is an on-the-ground demonstration of various ways to achieve a more sustainable lifestyle. It has been truly amazing and inspiring to see what was once a flat unused lot around an historic home, become a lovely and lush site filled with gardens of vegetables, medicinal plants, and... The center is located in a historic building formerly owned by one of the pony express riders. The director creates great programs and events to help provide inspiration to lead a more ecological, green lifestyle. Events can range from building a worm composter to creating wreaths with items from the garden. Classes for kids and lectures on urban gardening. Yearly... More

I stumbled upon the Ecology Center while picking up organic veggies at the adjacent South Coast Farmstand. It is a small building, so I thought I'd be in and out in a matter of minutes, but I was there for about an hour. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. I learned quite a bit and the visit changed some... More
